Steel stock- stupid question?

Just looking at the F class lineup today and realising I have to alter my blackwood stock. I came to thinking has anybody ever tried to make a welded skeleton stock out of steel. I have heard of (amongst yourselves) carving an alloy one out but surely a solid steel one with some sort of alloy mounting block would work or do you need the bulk to dampen the firearm?
I don't think it would be too heavy but all you really need is contact with the action, shoulder, cheek, hand grip and whatever mount at the front and bag at the back.
I have the skills to do this.
Could be a silly idea? Should I just crawl back into my hole?
