Which barrel adapter for Omark?

I will be building up an F open rifle on a budget and will be using an Omark action. I have heard of failures with some barrel adapters, is this right? If so, any recommendations on barrel adapters for an Omark which will be safe with decent loads.

Rod,
I advertised recently to try to get a MAB adaptor for Gary Hunt, and as you know he is a gunsmith. He is quite convinced they are the best, but I don't know enough about it to understand why

. If you find some, let me know please.

Trev says that there was an adaptor called Nielsen (? spelling) that were reputed to fail due to the way in which they were machined, plus some adaptors have been made from old barrels, this is not recommended.
The MAB adaptor is very good, we have used them in everything from .223 to 6.5x284, but they are difficult to get as they are only a small product line for the company that makes them, therefore supply is a bit hit and miss.
I have included the contact details for the company, if a few people get on their case they may consider it worth doing some. We managed to get them to produce a number of MAB components a couple years back so it is possible. Good Luck.
Cheers Lynn

I'm using an adaptor from Maddco on my Omark 6.5 and all is good so far (on barrel #3), might be an alternative to consider?
best regards

Hello,
On the adapters, I am working on one now that has an older style small diameter adapter fitted. The one I fitted a few weeks ago to a different rifle is an MAB. a few observations about the two:
The MAB unit is considerably larger diameter on the outside than the older unit. The smaller unit just looks frail to me....
The older types have the remington style recoil lug captured between the adapter and the action proper. The MAB unit has an integrated recoil lug giving a longer thread bearing area, and just looks more sensible from an engineering perspective.
Despite the MAB adapter having the integrated lug, I turned it off and mounted the Omark in a flexibloc, rather than spoil the job with epoxy bedding.
Rod, I got an adapter after waiting some time for it, but it was worth the wait in the long run. T&S are good people to do business with.

Well I have contacted MAB and will order one of theirs. They said it will be a one month wait, so maybe if anyone else wants one, you might want to get onto the same run.

I would suggest the MAB is the way to go as the alternative Maddco has a much narrower recoil lug...not that this should effect recoil but if one is to use lug as a point for take down screw it is far too narrow to be effective.
As far as the flexibed job woody has done, it is interesting to have turned the lug off in its entirity. ? ? ? ? ?..........................................................
But otherwise, if you get a competent gunsmith to fit it out only parts that are worthy of a good job will be used and make-do blacksmith style adaptors will be furthurest from ones mind.
Happy shooting.
Aim straight and enjoy the knowledge gained by getting 4's.

Rob,
Although I dont like going against the norm (thats a joke), recoil lugs were invented for shooting grenades in WW1. People can use them, I wont use them if given a choice. The block uses 3 x 10mm pins inserted into rubber mountings set into the block based. There is no metal to metal contact anywhere in the bedding system.
Incidentally, the rifle was built for our club captain, for use by his two sons in competition. His older son shot a 50/55 for a 105 first time out and was pretty happy.
