.223 barrel length

I see that the .223 has a strong following.

Is the "normal" barrel length 30" for this calibre.

I would go as far as saying if you can get one finnished in 30" (that is to say chambered and crowned) you will be on a winner. These little fellows, in my opinion, need all the help they can get in the way of velocity to be competitive at the longs....having said that, I have seen may shoot quite well that are only 28." I would only prefer to go this length after re-crown and chamber.

True enough Rob,

Seems 28" of actual bore length is about as much as you will get. Making the barrel around 30" total. Mine have been coming in a bit under that - maybe 29.5" OAL for FS, and 30.5" for TR, but with a deep hole crown.

I wouldnt worry to much fellas , 28" or less is plenty back to a 1000yds,Chop.
