Powders and loads for 6mm BRX

Hi All,

I'm new to 6mmBR, however have done loading for standard Winchester 6mm using 2213SC powder.

From what I've seen so far, most people are using 2209 for 6mm BR. Is there any reason that I shouldn't be using 2213SC or some other powder?

I have a bunch of 105 AMAX (moly and bare), along with 107 Sierra projectiles. I'm looking to use those in a 1:8 twist 6mmBRX barrel.

Any advice greatly accepted.

I think I've officially gone to the dark side.....alas Fullbore you were a great friend...

Think you'll find most are using 2208 not 2209. 2213sc might be a touch on the slow side even for an improved BR.

Use one of these three.

2208
Reloader 15
2206H.

I would suggest using 2208 in your BRX, and with 107 the load window should be around the 32.4-33.3 mark. Obviously start at the lower end and work up.

I have read guys getting up to 34 grains of 2208 in a BRX, but I have always found my rifles (3 of them) stay under the 33 grains mark. Pressure to high above that.

It is very easy to load for... 2213SC definitely not, 2209 will work, but I feel you wont get enough in the case to get velocity.

Cheers

Looks like I should give 2208 a go.

If anyone else is using different powders, please let me know why you settled on a particular one. I'm open to trying a few different loads, so as to get what works best with the BRX.

I should be able to get up around the 3100 fps speed with the right mix.

check out 6mmbr.com they have more data than you can poke a stick at!

its a US site so they refer to AR2208 and AR2209 as 'varget' and 'H4350' respectively.

take note of what Ackley Improved has said. AR2213SC will be too slow and AR2208 should be near perfect.

i have a couple of 6mm Dashers (Very similar capacity) and i use 2209. A full case and a 107 Sierra gives near 3050fps without the high pressure curve generated when using 2208. When i used 2208 primer pockets loosened rather quickly (3-4 firings). When i switched to 2209 i have loaded cases 5 or 6 time with no looseness showing up yet.

PM me if you want the exact amount i put into the case. I am a little apprehensive listing it for all to see

Thanks for the excellent feedback.

I'll do some homework now, and test some loads.

Next bit of work will be tuning the load to the barrel, and looking for some tight groups ..... aiming for nothing less than 100 :-D

I'm sure the wind gods have another thing to say about that.

Cheers.

Personal experience only, but 36 grains of 2209 works rather well. 2209 leaves quite a bit of rubbish up the bore but it's nothing that can't be managed. Pushing 107 Sierras about 2980 fps, it fills the case to about half way up the shoulder. Ensure that you are using CCI 450 magnum primers - they seem to hold up to a stiff charge rather well and they burn hotter for longer than regular primers.
Good shooting.
