Gday guys,

My names Matt, I'm 18, studing an Advanced diploma in mechanical engineering and I love my shooting. I've been looking to get into some long range competion and I'm not really sure where to start, So I got recomended to this forum. I do most of my shooting at the SSAA little river range down near avalon and I've got a Tikka T3 Stainles Varmint in .308, thats about it I think.

Welcome to the forum Matt, it's nice to meet you and to see another young shooter who's enthusiastic. I'm not in Vic but hopefully some of our Victorian members will poke theirs heads in to say 'hi' at some point. In the mean time have a look around, there's plenty of info available on the site. Hello Matt.

If you already shoot at Little River then your best bet is to head to us at Anakie East just a little bit further down the Bacchus Marsh Rd. We are the Geelong Rifle Club and we shoot from 300m to 900m every saturday. It is a fully electronic range and because of our unique setup you can shoot any distance on any saturday. You are not locked into a club shooting program.

Matt, I probably should have mentioned that Geelong is basically a scoped rifle club. There are two of us dinosaurs who persist with iron sights (Target rifle) but all of our other members are competing in scope class (F and F-open). This is not the usual ratio of shooters in clubs in Victoria

The Tikka is a pretty good rifle for the price.

Welcome to the ozfclass forum.

You made a good choice buying a Tikka, especially in 308. I have a Tikka Tactical in 223 and I used it in F Class Team matches and it preformed very well.

We have 3 members at Murray Bridge Rifle Club that also have Tikka 308's, one who shot in the 1,000 yard Champ's on Saturday, Dave and he won the F Class Standard badge .

You say you want to have work done on the rifle, what were you thinking of doing to it? In my opinion, I would get a 20 min. tapered Nightforce flat base to replace the standard picatinny base fitted. Work out a good load, shoot it and learn the art of wind reading .

Yeah I'll admit the name is pretty childish kinda been using it on forums and the like since i was about 14 (yeah I know, interesting story behind it though the sniper part well... being a 14 year old and all, but the beast part came from the cricket bat i was using at the time, the kookaburra beast ) I completely understand if you find it offensive or inapropriate, if so i'm not opposed to changing it

Well my tikka isn't exactly a factory setup, stock has been replaced and a few other minor things, but I'm looking at getting the trigger lightened up a little.

Matt, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your name. When I first saw it, I smiled and had the thought that I should introduce you to my 19 yo. I have no problem with your name, I've seen stranger names around here so don't stress about it. If the administrator didn't like it he would have said so.

Actually Woody_Rod you might want to consider your tag may have a few connotations.
Go Shoot the Tikka
PJ has given some good advice we all start somewhere my first rifle was a 700 Sendaro 7mm Mag still use it occasionally at club shoots.
