Panda Extractor

Post by MGS »

I'm having trouble with the extractor on my 6PPC not extracting every now & again. Always at the worst possible time during a record run. I have sprayed brakekleen into around & every whichway I can think of to try & clear whatever may be catching the extractor - it sticks in the up position.
I think there is now no alternative to taking the extractor off the bolt, but therein lies the problem. I cant see how to take it apart. Obviously it is spring loaded & the last thing I want to have to do is spend the next week looking for bits on the floor.
So can anyone give me in words of one syllable, the correct way of getting it apart - & back together again?

Thanks in anticipation

MGS,

Being a popular action in the US, you could probably get some information about it HERE, but I would ask whether its safe for a layperson to do it.

The Panda bolt uses a small ball loaded with a spring to act as a detent.

It should be pushed away from the centre of the bolt. It will be tough to slide the extractor out(as it should be!), so do it inside of a plastic bag.

Probably just has a sliver of brass jammed in it thats come off the rim of a 220 Russian case(Lapua I presume?). Quite often they develop a burr on the rim after neck turning.

Hope this helps..............
