I have been having problems with my faithfull old Shooting Crony. It gives wildly different readings between bright or cloudy days. On a bright day my 284 is doing 3300 fps, woohoo. But on a cloudy day or under a shade, it is doing 2700 fps, Doh. Can anyone recommend any newer cronies which dont vary so much between light conditions? How about the new CED crony?

Rod,

I wouldn 't buy another CED. My M2 might be a lemon, but its been back to the US and still is unreliable. The old F1 chrony has served me better.

The Oehler 35 sounds very promising - I don't remember any bad reports about them.

I know the Oehlers have a very good name. I might look into where I can get one and how much. I didnt want to spend a fortune.
I thought the CED Millenium with the infra red screens would have been good, but maybe not. has anyone had experience with the Oehlers in varying light??

We have an Oehler 35P and Trev says it works over the widest range of light of any of the chrony's he's had or used. He says it is a very good unit and the only issue he has ever had with it is that he didn't buy it as his first option, but we live and learn.

I've had my CED for about 3 years and it has been perfect. I would highly recomend one.

However, if I bought another one i would go for the infrared, so you didn't have to stop for bad light at the end of the Day.

Had an Oehler 35 for 10 years or so ( maybe longer ) and it's never missed a beat--accurate , reliable. Does'nt particularly like bright sunlight directly on the sensors but that's easily fixed.
Works well in the brightest or dullest light.

Rod,

Oehlers have been out of civilian hands for some time, but in the last month or two they have made an offer to sell stateside. I'm not sure if that extends to international customers.

I've had a 35 for about 15 years now & it works fine. However, two friends have used the CED Millennium too with equal results & it does have a good reputation on international shooting forums.

Hi Rod I have had a CED for about 05 I have the Infa Red light screens so ambient light is not an issue and this is what all cronies rely on
Oehlers have a good reputation but compared to what the electronics in the CED would be current.
The CED 2 with IR screens in conjunction with RSI shooting lab program is the way to go.
Shoot over the unit plug into laptop and down load you velocities that simple.
I can evaluate my loads via SD of group very handy
BTW I think Alan has a lemon

OK, so who sells either one in Australia. I would rather buy localy so that if I have the same issues as Alan had, I can send it back to the local dealer.

I'm with Richard, the CED 2 with IR screens gives repeatable results.
