im looking at getting a chronograph to help with load development of my new toy!

i have been doing some reading and although a ohler p35 would be great they are quite expensive IF you can get hold of one.

so i have been considering eigther a gamma master chrony with a printer or a CED M2.

i like the idea of the gamma master because i would be able to print the data and staple it to the target at the range. they also seem to be a reasonoble price aswell.

i have read some good reports on the CED M2 but are they any beta than the gama master that comes with a printer?

I use the CED M2 - plus side is it holds the data in memory and you can dump it to your computer via an application for further analysis, it can also weed out spurious shots as well. I also chose the CED as you do less damage if you inadvertently shoot the thing (Not done it yet!)

Possible down side is I seldom see it as it is usually being used by someone else.

Go with the CED m2. I have one now having had two Chrony's in the past. Its easy to use as previously described. You can use it in low light or night with an infra red kit. Night time use allows you to explore extreme spreads in under different atmospheric conditions. Do brace it solidly in windy conditions as accidents happen with all gear. The CED has a large surface area when assembled. Don't lend it as the death of my two previous machines were caused by others with good intentions but deep pockets. One shot and one dropped in a wind gust. David.

i have spoken to several people and theyr all stearing me towards the CED.

so i think ill be ordering the CED with a set of infared screens aswell.

ill try and get a price in australia as sinclair doesnt have stock of the light screens only the unit itself.

I have just bought a CED Millenium M2 and so far it is cr#p. It only reads if the bullet (22 cal and 6mm) are shot between 3-4" over the sensors, no higher.
Has anyone else seen this? Someone mentioned colouring the front of the bulet in black texta to get a reading on small bullets, has anyone else found this or have I just got a dog?

I have also noticed that small fast bullets are missed unless shot low, once you know this it is not a problem and the CED does the job.

Jeeze, even my 20 year old F1 crony could read the speeds of my 14/221 bullets.

Well it is fair to say we are pushing .224" 80 grain SMK's at over 3600fps so I thought it did quite well...

try r s i for a ced. they might have what you want.
you only need the infra setup under rare conditions, not all the time.
r s i also have a programme called shooting lab which is well worth having.

Rod, I found the CED 2 needs a couple of things right before it works ultra-reliably.

1. Must have fresh 9V battery. (I use a pack of 6x1.5V AA soldered to terminals)

2. IR light screens are essential if you want to be shooting in changing light conditions.

I had all sorts of niggly problems when I first bought my CED 2 but by using a fresh 9V battery every time eliminated most of them. The IR screens now give me an ultra-reliable (any conditions) chrono with repeatable results withing a few fps of consecutive readings.

I can shoot .177 air rifle pellets thru it at 800fps and 90gr 223s at 3200fps and never miss a reading. The height above the sensors does not make a difference but the bullet should pass through the 2 sensor screens in a straight line, ie not inclined up or down or left to right.

If you are using Bryan Litz's G7 BC figures for your ballistic calcs (if you use ballistic calcs?) then you are using data gathered thru his use of CED chronographs. Cant be all bad eh?

My M2 worked most of the time but couldn't trust it, but have recently bought IR screens and it hasn't missed a beat in about 6 testing sessions, so I'd recommend the IR screens as a necessary purchase for this model.
