I was reading an article on the 6mm BR site regarding barrel cleaning products. It was saying about using carburetor cleaner for getting the carbon build up out of the barrel as opposed to a gun cleaning spray such as G96 for example (what i'm currently using).

Would there be any issues with using a readily available carburetor cleaner (aerosol) for doing the bulk of the burnt powder/carbon removal? Or can anyone suggest anything?

Most of those recommending that style of carbon cleaner are actually referring to Upper Engine cleaner, specifically the old formulation GM product which is no longer available. However, a similar if not identical product is sold by Subaru (I use it) & Mercury Quicksilver (I recall Keith Hills sniffing that stuff).

It certainly works for me. I spray it onto a bristle brush & give the barrel several strokes repeated three times with refill, then rest it & patch out with precuts on a spear jag.

I regularly/occasionally give the bore a polish (usually after a series with JB Bore Brite).

Qualification: To date, I've only used .308s. Don't know how the 6BR will like it when it comes, but I'm sure that I can work out a suitable routine.

Incidentally, Subaru's injector cleaner additive is said to be the idfentical formulation & I have used that too with equal effect.

Used in conjunction with BoreTech Eliminator will clean up most barrel fouling issues. Oil out with a good oil e.g. "Sweets" after. If the barrel is clean the first shot will be at the bottom of the group.....Works for me .

Can you give a bit more information than that? I've never heard of them before...
