Hi Ian , I have already told Paul J right when he 1st started up that if he can swing a 2 day 1000yd event at Murray Bridge in 2011 then i will do my best to get to it , I would love to shoot somewhere different and so do some of the other locals here.. I figure about 5 visiting 1K Bench guns to add to the list of SA guys .. The pure effect of ballistic advantage is eroded away if the gun won't group ,the 7mms are not being used anywhere in the world to shoot small in the 10 shot matches .. Score should be their domain but none so far have been able to get within a bulls roar of my 30 cal and in the grouping , not a one .. It is also the method of getting the job done that i believe is the hold back in some cases , if memory serves my right the closest shooter in Aust using the F/class style of shoot format goes about yearly group average of 11.8 ins .. In 2010 i reset it to 7.4ins ,this is really streets away in terms of performance because it's all about getting 10 bullets the actual same BC .. I have spent 7 out of the 15 years shooting 7 mm projectiles ,some 25000 7mm bullets down range and i would not return until somebody makes a good bullet..JR.. Jeff Rogers..ps i do compensate for the lack of BC buy running the 187 to 3350 fps [quote="IanP"show us how to shoot in a 1000 yard BR. I for one would love to see how its done by an experienced BR shooter!

Coupla reasons Bat, 1 There is no provision for my gun in F /class proper rules wise and 2 it would mean about a 6000k road trip to get there and back because it is too heavy to be carried in plane baggage ,, A Sth Aus 1000yd benchrest weekend yes..JR..Jeff Rogers [quote="BATattack"]why dont you come and shoot f class on saturday and we'll shoot the 1000yd br match on sunday??

is your rifle over 8mm or is it equiped with a perminant break? if it isnt i dont think there would be a drama with you taking part in a casual saturday shoot. would be interesting to compare good shooters from 2 sports side by side.
would be a pritty fair. granted you might have to work something out with your rest but i could bring some plates and give you a hand.
paul is the only one with a dedicated BR rig everyone else just shoots their f class rifles. shooting a big cal 10kg rifle with a 3" forend in a open HG class is a disadvantage but so is shooting a 1000yd HG off the mound.
2 days of shooting is 2 days of shooting
would be a fun weekend!

HI Bat , Gun is less than 8mm ,no brake ,but is 29kgs and has a slightly wider than 3inchs stock.. That said , i'm not going to drive 6000k for just a bit of fun , i would prefere to travel that far for the competition.. Thanks for the offer on assistance but the outfit was designed only ever to be shot off a bench and my crook back is one of the reasons i stopped shooting f/class ..JR..Jeff Rogers [quote="BATattack"]is your rifle over 8mm or is it equiped with a perminant break? if it isnt i dont think there would be a drama with you taking part in a casual saturday shoot. would be interesting to compare good shooters from 2 sports side by side.

Just a bit of trivia. I know of 5 recent Queens which were won with flat bases used at some stage. 68gn 22 cal, 100gn 6mm and 162gn 7mm.
Gotta admit though, for 90% of people, 50% of the time, boat tails (not necassarily VLDs) are preferable.

And its not too hard to guess who that was Rod

.
It seems that boat tails are harder to keep consistency in the manufacture than flat base, and inconsistent bullets hurt accuracy. But of course the higher BC of boat tails "improves" your wind reading. So if you can find a consistent boat tail, then you get the best of both worlds. That's what I try to do. I also think that the slower your fire rate, then the more advantage you'll get from the high BC bullets. In Bisley style, where its about 2 mins between shots, and nearly every shot is a sighter, then in almost any conditions, you would be unwise to opt for FB. If electronic targets are introduced with little or no minimum time limit, then FB bullets (along with multi-port actions) will become popular. It'll probably suit all those who do both BR and F-Class, but I personally prefer the slow fire way, because it puts more emphasis on reading the conditions.

alan,
amen to not letting electronic targets turn fclass into a machine gunner's sport.
jeff,
what if paul could organize a 2 day 1000 br, then add on an fclass match, 20 to count at 800, 900, & 1000yd.
in deference to your back we could alter the rules to make benches optional, and allow any weight rifle, but no brakes.
5 shooter teams, and the agg of br & fclass scores at the end to decide the winners.

Hi Bruce , 3 days is even better , might be difficult to get all shooters with the 17 lbs guns Without brakes but .. Havn't shot F for years ,last time i finished our local 2002 OPM with a 143 at 15 shot 900 met so i think i can remember how .. What about if your throwin out some of the the rules , make it Bisley style 3 man team ,20 shot belly grubber only .. I shot the day after i came out of the cardiac unit late last year and the guys carried my gear around so i could compete so i guess i could get em to help get all the gear up and back from the deck .. Agg the BR and F and the winning team shouts the Corona's... JR..Jeff Rogers [quote="bruce moulds"]alan,

jeff,
if you've been in a cardiac unit, maybe half coronas would be more appropriate.
what about doing it all at lower light easter next year. there is accomodation at the range, and nearby.
there is also a shower block there.
we would have to book the range.
