yesterday at murray bridge prize shoot, mark heyward shot a 60 at 500m, a 60 at 600m, and a 90 at 800m, all with reasonable x counts.
he did not drop a point in 35 shots.
he was shooting a 6.5 x 47 lapua, smithed and barrel block bedded by glenn hutchins, on a savage target action.
well done mark.

I second that Bruce. Mark shot very well.
Pitty there was not the tricky conditions that Murray Bridge can produce.

A shooting performance like Mark gave at the Murray Bridge, Monarto Rifle Range doesn't happen too often and it was great to take part in the match. Richard Braund came in second and dropped only two points in the match, it was pleasing to see Richard return to winning (almost) form.

The conditions for the match were outstanding with only light to almost no wind at the start of the day and just a cooling breeze blowing throughout the afternoon. F-Open is alive and growing in SA and the numbers of FO to FS shooters were pretty even.

In FS Colin Kochel won the day with a superb shoot but not quite as mind numbingly good as Mark did in FO.

P.S. Can someone please give me Mark's X count at 600m as it is a new FO State Record and PM me Mark's email address!

P.S.S. Alan, I finally reached the limit of usable 284S case life when pushed and backed a primer out.

yes, credit must be given to raven for also shooting a 15 shot possible at 800m, beating mark on x count.
and tim shot his first ever 60 with his new / pest's old rifle. that boy is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
yes, open is on the way up here in s.a. there is no doubt that the superv target is a big part of this.

Yes the day was enjoyable on many counts, I feel privliged to have been there to witness Marks tripple possible. An exlemplary performance regardless of the conditons. Well done again Mark.
I would like to expess my gratitude to some of the "wise heads" who offered me advice throughout the day to enable me to help steer some of those 180 VLD's to an appropriate portion of the target and shoot my first possible 60.4 at 600m (same count as Mark but he took out that range on countback)

he threw re17 powder into 50 cases at about the rite charge and started seating 130gr berger VLD's on top. . . . THEN realised he only had enough projies for 2 details!! so he just pulled a box of 139gr lapua's out the draw and seated them on top of the same charge as the 130 bergers! off to the range and shoots a tripple possible!

mark did check to make shure he wasnt over max load before seating 139gr bullets on a 130gr charge.

goes to show if you can read the wind a little extra vertical probably doesnt hurt

oh and good on RAVEN for getting a range win for the nostalgic calibers

Well done Mark but I know you are very capable of these types of results never the less not dropping a shot at an OPM will be a wake up that this very high standard is what may be required as we become more accustomed to this target.

I now realise that a 15 shot match takes a lot of consentration and is a total different animal than the standard 10 shot match.

Haybag I would shoot that barrel as much I you can so it will wear out and give us underlings a chance.

I distinctly remember one Rod Davies shooting a 180 at 700,800,800m at the canberra queens under tricky conditions. Its fair to say that F Open is heading into a golden erra, and i think its great for our sport in general. We defintately have some top notch shooters, it would be grat to the world F class champs come down under some day!!
