Im currently shooting FStd/Barnard/Krieger and have purchased a 7mm/32"/1:8.5 straight Krieger barrel to screw straight into my Barnard/P action for the occassional F Open/Match Rifle shoot.
Any ideas on which reamer/chamber/projectile/load/tips/general info......?
I have had some guidence from PJanso/RBraund (SA) though will happily listen to all ideas......,

hi matt,
the std 284 is a good balancing act between holding the wind, barrel life, recoil etc.
the 280 ackley is a bit more of a good thing, and can get you away from the price gouging of lapua brass.
the 6.5/284 is easier to shoot than the 7mm & 30 cal cartridges, but a lot harder on barrels.
i am starting to think that the 6.5 lr combines reasonable barrel life with lower recoil than above, cheaper high bc bullets than 7mm & 30 cal, less powder consumption, and generally a good cartridge for a windreader.
if the 6mm lr would work with ar2217, it too would give good berrel life, & great shootability.
if you want to sustain lapua price gouging, the lr cases can be formed from 308 small flash hole brass, just like the 6.5x47.
just some thoughts, worth what they cost.

What is the 6.5 lr? And does it like 7mm barrels?

They still use paper patched bullets over there.

Since you have a standard 308 sized bolt face, it is a choice between 284 and 280AI.
I like the 284 at 2800 fps, recoils not too bad and barrels last ages.
Do you shoot mostly in the windy ranges? I know the S.A shooters seem to like the wind bucking calibers because of the difficult winds. If you shoot in one of the windy ranges, a 280 AI will get you to 2950 fps.

Some like the 284 Shehane, but to get up to the 2950 fps node you realy have to push the pressure, so I would go for a 280AI if you realy must get the most velocity.

Oh dear, criticise SA shooters then make a ballistic nonsense like the above statement. Cant get up to 2950fps, I have no trouble pushing out the 162gr Amax's at over 3000fps in my Shehane. Whats you talkin about? Maybe leave some info off the reply?

funny you should say that, because i do shoot paper patch bullets in my 45/90/540.2.4" .
these things are surprisingly accurate when done right, and at ranges like 1200 yd. i have only been out to 800m so far.

While you are still shooting at Fee-Nix I suggest you shoot that 6.5X.284!

the s.africans beat the americans with the 7mm tombi.
this cartridge is as i understand it a version of the improved 7x57, but i do not know finer details.
they used 168 bergers, and won in part by having better verticle than the yanks.
this cartridge would be lovely to shoot, and have excellent barrel life.
