Hi all,
I am ordering the bits for my first competition setup for F-Class standard.
I have on order a Savage F/TR 308 and a Nightforce 8-32 Bench Rest Scope.
I have ordered rail and want to order my rings. I want to use a EGW rail (ordered) and Night Force Rings (not ordered).
The EGW rail I Have ordered is the HD F-Class mount (there is also a non-HD F-Class mount) I have heard that the "HD Version is 0.350 inch top of rail to top of receiver.
If this is so then I have calculated from what info I can find on the net and dimensions of the scope also found on the net that I would need Nightforce 1.265 rings (base of ring to centreline of scope). This is their "High" Mount. I have allowed and extra 2.4mm at the objective because of the 20MOA rail. If all my asumptions are correct then I should have a clearance at the objective of about 5.1mm plus the reduction in barel diameter at that point. I suspect that I could come down to the 1.123 inch (medium) mount.
This is the part number of the rail:
80322 "HD F-Class Savage Round Back Short Action Picatinny Rail Scope Mount 20MOA
Can any one with a similar setup give may some advice as to if this is too high or low and if I have the dimension of the rail(s) correct.
Some where it was mentioned that the HD F-Class EGW rail was 0.350 and the standard EGW F-class rail was 0.450
Could I get away with the medium mount if the rail is 0.350?

Here is my math:
1.32 inch outside radius of the objective (Nightforce BR)
0.350 Height of the rail (top of receiver to top of rail at front)
0.048 Drop of objective due to 20MOA Rail (sin 0.333 (20MOA) x 8.3inches (half scope length)) This is an approx measurement as this will change as the scope is moved forward or back.
I am ignoring the reduction in barel diameter from the receiver unless some can tell me what this measurement is.
1.32 - .350 + .048 = 1.018 inches
if I get the Nightforce Medium rings (1.125in top of rail to centerline of scope) then the clearance is:
1.125 - 1.018 = 0.107in = 2.72mm (this is the clearance to the barrel ignoring the difference between barrel and reciever diameter)
Can some one tell me if I am correct?
Can some one tell me what the receiver and barel diameters are for the Savage F/TR?
I know the best way is to wait untill every thing turns up and try it but I was wanting to do this as an exercise in any case. And I hate to wait for my rings when every thing else is siting in front of me.
