6.5x47 vs .260?

Howdy,

Can anyone tell me why either of these is better than the other? I would think more powder in .260 is a good thing, but read that the brass is poor...except then read that there is now top quality lapua brass for .260 so still very confused...

On a side note I filled the front bag for my rest today, in order to be able to use the fore-end plate I got for rifle....not sure if I should feel like a weirdo for getting excited about filling a sand-bag up...ahhh the joys of being new to a sport.

:D :D

Ive always like the sound of the 260ackley. But form it with 308 palma cases. 130gr berger VLD's and it sounds like a decent FO round to me.

Baldric,

Lapua has only recently started producing 260 brass, probably the reason for your conflicting advice. An important difference between the two chamberings is primer size. The 6.5x47 uses small primers - there's pluses and minuses with that - you hear more stories about primer problems (ignition, piercing) with the small ones, but on the plus side the head of the case will be stronger so higher pressures achievable without primer pocket expansion.

If you want to go slightly faster with a standard case, the 6.5x55Swede is good, but is quite long.

+1 on the 130 Berger for all of these cases.

Disregard my last, didnt know the Lapua already had an improved shoulder.

What might the barrel life be with the 6.5 Super LR? It has got my interest!
