The two short You Tube video links show the wind that prevailed as Geoff Grenfell shot his final 1000 yard range at Belmont today.

I see the videos captured some of the drop offs which caused so much heart ache. Sometimes all the flags dropped right down for a few seconds. Its so much easier to see on video, than when laying down on the mound.

ecomeat,
you will have to film at lower light sometime.
sometimes people don't know how well of they are.
keep safe,
bruce.

That's funny Bruce, I watched those videos and couldn't work out what they were concerned about, the flags looked pretty normal to me. Perhaps we are missing something. :D

I was down first at 1000 yards, and when I got up, I had a big smile. The guys asked why I was smiling... I said...
I'm done! You still have to shoot that! LOL

lynn,
great minds think alike.
when they come to film, the condition won't be normal, and our reputation will be ruined.
keep safe,
bruce.

It wasnt so much the strength of the winds at Belmont, but the major direction changes and drop offs. Some drop offs were very very sudden.
Top A grade TR shooters were getting some 1s and 2s. It was very hard to read.

And the whirlwinds going across the range.

I think we really need "I survived 1000 yards at Belmont" pins made up. LOL

I think its fair to say the scores tell the story that it was very tough on the last day. You only need to look at what happened to Corbett and Grenfell. I've seen flags going a lot harder than that at Rosedale (and Lower Light) but, Belmont is in a sort of "bowl", and you're shooting over the top of the flags from the 1000 mound. I saw those conditions at the shorts in 2009, and can only imagine what it would have been like at twice the distance. Belmont is a beautiful range, but occasionally gets visited by particularly ugly winds.

Agree Al, study the scores and you will get the story. It was still fun though :)

You can actually see who shot at the same time using the scores over the whole week. Conditions were interesting. I enjoyed the challenge.

That's NASTY

WOW.

Looking at the scores, it was a scarey last day.

Well done to Rod and the Boys and Girls that survived the shoot. It really was a case of if you got a break in the conditions, then you just go go go!

A Five as a sighter would have been worth holding onto! No use chasing centers on a day like that.

I wonder when Geoff got his last 39?

I wonder if James has ever scored a 1 before  .
