Weaver T36 ?

... any good?

Seems to be a few getting around on UG, one just down the road a bit.
All seem to be on the market because somebody bought it, then "changed the plan" ... one had been fitted and then removed without a shot being fired, and another not even fitted.

So ... was the change due to wanting to go to something else more up market?
... or to something that actually worked? (ie weaver T36 is garbage)

Hi Eddy
There is nothing wrong with the T36, they are a good scope. However in summer in SA we have plenty of mirage at most of our ranges and a fixed power scope of that magnification can be difficult to use. For our conditions we are better suited to a variable power scope that can be wound back a bit to get a clearer picture of the target. I would suggest you go to a range where you can check out a few scopes on a hot day to get an idea of what works best for you- possibly catch up with the Loxton crew on that.
Regards Malcolm.

I agree with Malcolm. I have a Weaver T24 as a backup scope - they have 1/8 min clicks, and a reputation as being very reliable mechanically, but not always good optically. I do use mine occasionally, but rarely when mirage is expected. I'd expect a T36 to be even less suitable in mirage.

Hi Eddy

I have had a T36 on my Omark for about 12 months now, I can't complain about it, it has performed flawlessly (unlike the user!!... :? )

It has good optics from 300 to 900 yards, as mentioned, mirages can, from time to time, be an issue, but isn't that big a problem, in fact, in some respects it has been the opposite, it has taught me to read the wind a bit better and patience to wait, watch and reevaluate using the mirage.

As a starter scope on a budget I can strongly recommend it. I brought mine from off this site for under $500.

Paul.

where are you shooting?

At Waikerie, (and Loxton) we get mirage issues even through open peep sights lol ...

Hi Eddy
We're you at Light River OPM last Saturday ? As we may have been talking about rifle calibers.
I have always used Weaver T 36 rifle scopes ever since I started shooting F Class Open.
I have never had a failure and they always return to zero.
I make sure I have focused the paralax just like any other scope and away I go.
The only issue I have with the latest scope is the turrets, they go from 0-4 minutes then back down to 0 . I have overcome this by having the turrets engraved with external arrows to show which way to wind for elevation and windage.
I hope this helps
Cheers
