Has anybody experienced much in the way of lot to lot variation in 2209? I hear 2208 is supposed to have quite a bit in the way of variation, while others reputed to be "in the know" say thats a total load of BS. But I thought I would check about 2209 as Ive started using a bit of it now.

Maybe i,m not in the know as I have found 2208 to occaisonaly have big differences (50-60 fps in a 308). 2209 does sometimes have differences of around 40 fps with the last lots I am using (MEM5010 and 5011) being 40 fps fast than the previous lot I was using.
For instance, with 2 different lots of 2209 in my 284 Shehane, I went from 53.2gns, back to 52.6 gns to keep the same speed and tune.
With my 6.5 WSSM, I went from 44.4gns, back to 43.6gns to keep the same speed and tune.

Thanks Rod. It looks like gertrude runs similar powder quantities as my 260 improved.

Yes, Ballistic twins.

BTW, someone has let me know they had bigger differences than I got with 2208 between one very slow batch and the next very fast batch.

One of my club members was re-testing some 2209 .284 loads a few weeks ago. He had the rifle humming for a long time, has got a new batch of 2209, instantly lost accuracy and identified a significant difference in batch speed.

Exact figures I dont know and wont try to quote on.

Really does open my eyes as to how handy a chronograph can be. Without one your unsure if you need to add powder or take it out of the case.
