Hi All
Anyone played with a 280 AI with 180's, I'm looking for some load data.
Thanks

Barrels done, cases are 280 RWS. Just have to make dies and blow out some cases.

Matt,
I still have the barrel, dies and RWS cases I picked up from Cameron.
Only put two shots down the barrel before starting to play with the RSAUM. Now put on the shelf till after FCWC.
Not much data but 52gr 2209 with BR2 primers - 2720 fps (180 hybrid 20 thou jump). I would imagine this would go somewhere close to approaching the RSAUM load of 56gr for 2950 fps. But I would be comfortable jumping up and starting at AROUND 54 grains (chasing 2820-2950)
If you are going with 2213SC I would think a good start load would be around 57 grains. Let me know how you go as I will be back onto this in a few months.

63gn of 2217 - .015"Jammed will have your 180gn VLD running at 2950fps.

Well, gave the 280AI it's first outing yesterday (chambered on Mon, firefformed Tue, made dies on Wed) @ 800M and it looks very promising
I started at 56.5 grains of 2217 (180 VLD's jammed 15 thou) and fired six rounds, then up 0.5 grain and another six rounds and so on up to 59 grains. Velocity started at 2710 group for the first stage was not real good (lots of vertical, out to the 4 ring

). Second stage 57.5 and 58.0 of 2217, velocity up to 2801-2837 (both loads combined) elevation very good scored 60.6. Third stage 58.5 and 59.0 velocity 2813-2862 (both loads combined) elevation very good again and scored 60.8.
Cases fall out no signs of pressure which was what this experiment was all about, I'm sure it will run faster but I see no point at this stage (another 100 fps will makes three fifths difference in wind), I will try it again next week at 300 and see how it performs, I'm thinking 58.3 and 58.7. What pleasantly surprised me was basically a 2 grain window with a spread of 60 fps that held less than the 6 ring @ 800 M.
Reamer is a little tighter than normal to suit RWS brass with a no turn neck and a 0.190" free bore.

matt,
you talked me out of the 280 ackley years ago, and now you've got one.
more seriously, you are probably not on the top node.
nice to have options.
bruce.
