Hi All,

I enquired with Sinclairs about a Hawkeye. What an absolute joke considering the price difference when purchasing from an Australian supplier.
Heres the question and answer.

Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase a Hawkeye bore scope.
I reside in Australia.
I've heard along the grapevine that bore scopes require an export license to purchase and ship out of the US.

Is that correct?

If so, what is the process and cost for me to do that via Sinclair International?

That's obviously a load of shite. They take ordinary AA batteries. There will be another reason. I was told that Sinclair was banned from exporting them because one they exported was found in enemy hands. You could try another supplier. Try contacting gradientlens.com. Sinclair has plummeted in my estimation since they were taken over by Brownells.

Damien at BRT told me that Sinclairs don't even offer them a discount any more.

I agree Alan. I think they're losing it.

Not about a borescope but......I have purchased 5 fully inletted stocks from Richards Micro fit Stocks over the years - emailed them last month for another stock and they told me they no longer export inletted stocks!! They would be happy to send me a chunk of shaped wood but the rest is up to me!
Not sure what is happening in the States at the moment.

I had the same BS from Sinclairs when I ordered an Omega Powder Trickler......... They couldn't / wouldn't export it because it had batteries. Like you I requested they remove the batteries, but they wouldn't. I then ordered direct from Dandy who make it, and they shipped it that same day, complete with batteries intact.

Lester Bruno will be keener to take your cash than Sinclairs/Brownells.

I enquired with Brunos Shooter Supply yesterday. Even though it was a weekend, they returned my email, advising me that there are NO RESTRICTIONS on them exporting borescopes.
Also they were the cheapest that I could find.

I've made an order. Thanks for the advice guys.

Now I won't have to assume that my cleaning regime is good and hopefully I wont be shocked by what I find.

You were lucky with Brunos. This is the response I got from them 2 weeks ago when I wanted to order a NF scope "Sir we are currently 4000 orders behind sorry please order in the future." Mind you that was Lester, not Amy, whom I have always found to be excellent. Lester has let me down before for example not passing my email messages on to Amy. I will shop elsewhere.
Sinclairs - I have gone off them big time. Their p and p costs have become unreasonable plus everything arrives in an enormous box filled with lots of packing. Yes, please protect my item but don't go overboard. They are not flexible ie will not remove item from manufacturer's packaging and fit into for example a USPS Flat Rate Box on the occasions when the item could easily fit. I have used Brownells for years and always found them very professional. I have used Sinclairs from way back in the days when you rang your order in and they were almost like dealing with mates. Sinclairs have lost something with their being gobbled up by Brownells. I tend to now use the smaller guys like Russ Haydon who still provide the personnel service where you deal on a first name basis. Maybe not always the cheapest but I don't always buy on price alone. Re shipping with batteries I have just bought of Sinclairs (yeh I know, I have just been slagging them!) a Infra-red kit for my CED Chronograph which included the NiMh battery pack - there were no issues from them re shipping this item. And I did buy my Hawkeye off them a few years ago - again no issues. The Borescope batteries are just loose in the box, how hard is it to remove them???

I had a $4500 order with them and couldn't get them to send it . . . . . after several weeks of waiting and then speaking with lester he was very apologetic (so he should after selling one of the actions I had already ordered!) but explained he was flat out trying to keep up with orders and keep his business cash flow correct and it may take another 6 weeks to actually process and ship my order. . . . . . . I explained that all you have to do is wrap it u and post it and you'll another $4500 in your account!!! didn't seem too interested an I think just wanted to rack u a heap of orders during this busy time and process them AFTER the rush.

Damn......... now I'm feeling rattled. The order still hasn't been processed. Guess I'll wait and see what happens.

Were you dealing with Amy or Lester? Amy = good, Lester = bad, maybe. I am just wondering if Amy is not around at present.

Not sure about Lester, but he did agree to a supply arrangement that has got the Australian FCWC out of a lot of trouble. I dealt with Amy, who was very helpful, and we now have our primer and powder requirements delivered and secure at the FCWC venue. So don't write Bruno's off. ALL of the major suppliers in the US are under extreme pressure at present. I just tried to get a login to Brownell's and their system is currently overloaded.

The main thing required in the current situation is patience.

+1 AlanF - After all the talk on here about Brunos I logged on to them last night and they apparently have 3,800 orders to get through at present and have tried many times lately to log onto Brownells and their system is indeed overloaded.
With 4 million guns being bought by Americans in a typical year, one can only wonder how many will be sold 2012/2013. One also wonders what quality control will be like with most major factories at peak capacity.
Australia is already a "dumping" ground for some inferior products.

Just an update for interest sake.

I waited 3 weeks and the money still hadn't been taken from my account. I emailed Amy on Thursday asking when she thought they would put the transaction through.
Friday morning, the money had come out and I'd recieved an email with a tracking number. The borescope landed in Botany on Sunday morning. thats phenominal from the time of transaction.

I'm getting excited now.
