Just wondering what people prefer. I have not used a diopter much. Will it effect my ring size much compared to the eagle eye.

Pico, a rear diopter will magnify the aiming mark and the front iris, so you'll need smaller rings. The front lens only magnifies the aiming mark which is why you need bigger front rings. Make sense? There is a technique to focussing the rear diopter - needs some work, call if you need a hand.

Pico,

I used a variable dioptre for all my TR shooting, and found them to be great. Ring sizes are hardly any different at all. (compared to bare knuckles) One advantage is that they are relatively easy to keep dry in the rain. Use a shade tube.

To start, put a printed sheet on the floor, open the peep fully and from a standing position focus on the printing. When you go to the range, close down to about 0.8 or less and you will be very close. All you have to do then is to make sure that the front ring is as sharp as.

The dark side awaits you in F Open. You could sell yourself a decent Vortex scope at the right price get straight into it.

exactly !! We know that you can shoot, ol bushie. You would be competetive from Day One (on the dark side) And think of all the joy and happiness that you would bring to all the TR shooters who you keep beating when you are having a normal-good day shooting Target Rifle !!
F Open shooters would promise to do their best to make you really work for Placings at OPMs and Queens etc !!
Its a real Win-Win.

All jokes aside, it seems to me that the evolution of both fore and rear sights has reached the stage where a low powered scope -- say 4x would be advantageous in numerous ways.

Probably cheaper than combined fore and rear sights together with all the necessary gadgets that go with them.
Less frustrating for those who have vision difficulties which cannot be corrected with diopters and/or eagle eyes, thereby tending to somewhat level the field!!!
