Anyone find stiffer ejector plunger springs for a Barnards?

The ejector plunger on my Barnard P action is stiff enough to eject 284 cases, but my other one wont quite ejector a heavier WSM case. Has anyone found a source for stiffer springs for Barnard ejector plungers? Barnard does not make a stiffer one apparently.

Hi Rod

What does the ejector spring look like on the Barnard? I went without on my Model P with magnum boltface.

Umm, it looks like a little bit kind of long windy sort of thing.

I have the manual dexterity of Steady Eddie on acid, so I need all of the mechanical assistance I can get.

OK, I have removed the spring with minimal damage and non permanent scaring.

For the technically minded, it is a coil spring .115" or 2.9mm wide and .650" (16.5mm) long.

It has about 17-18% more flaccid than an old Chinese biro spring.

MattP. Can you repair bolt faces?

Is the plunger getting full range of movement? I think Barnard keep it on the light side to maintain some control over ejection.

Q-Store (Stootenstuff) had and ejector spring on their website, not sure if it's for a Barnard thouught. Might be worth a call?

MBA website is a bit of trap for mechanically minded people. If you want, do a search for springs:

I will try the sites you listed.
Thanks from Rod

rod,
the other option is to get a stolle.
they have no ejector spring, and give you the option of hard, soft or in between ejection depending on haw hard you pull back the bolt.
keep safe,
bruce.

My other rifle is a Stohle with the mechanical ejector. I just wish it was as good to use as my Barnard.

Where would you find one of those?

For those wanting stiffer ejector springs for their Barnards, I have beefed up the ejection on my Barnard .280 with a cut to length "unknown" origin spring from my "collection items" draw. The ejection was fine for .308 & satisfactory although a bit lazy for the heavier .280 case. Now that I am aware that there are those that may be looking for stronger springs for the larger cases , I will pursue a source of such springs. I will post here if I am successful.

Keith. I contacted Barnard a while ago and they said they don't make heavier springs. If you are able to source something heavier, I will definitely be interested. I tried some of the other places mentioned previously without any luck.
The standard spring in my 284 works great, its just my WSM which needs the extra assistance.

G'day Rod,
What diameter is the ejector hole? I have an assortment of small strong springs but they are a little larger in Diameter than 2.9mm
