yes aust did well at raton, but what will be the standards reached in the future?
recent thinking brought several issues to mind.
Olympic and 300m shooters at top level are known to endure serious physical fitness regimes just to be competitive.
the endurance factor of raton seems to bear out the value of this.
they also wean themselves off caffeine and such things, and manage their diets very strictly, again, just to be competitive at that level.
of course no smoking, and almost no drinking.
how long will it be before a caffeine consumer be denied consideration for a team, just to be sure of being competitive?
what will the wold standard be when such things become mandatory due to necessity?
keep safe,
bruce.

Bruce,
You can count me out of that, I'll let my sons concern themselves with the future.
Coffee in the morning, cigars during the day , beer at night.
Didn't change any habits before or during Raton.

Whilst teams are self funded - good luck with trying to apply any of those restrictions!
Of course there are benefits to physical training - considerably lower resting heart rate, better concentration etc but coffee restrictions - well thats a bit of a stretch (unless ones daily intake of coffee is rediculously high - then there are benefits to weaning off it)
Cheers

If anyone tries to limit "Coffee in the morning, cigars during the day , beer at night.
" then just tell them :
I AN NOT AN ATHLETE I AM A SPORTSMAN ! Just remember all the paintings outside the pub of sportsmen enjoying a beer ...

I wouldn't want to see Australia leading the way in this regard. Just keep reasonably healthy and prepared for the expected physical demands and weather conditions. F-Class shooting can be done successfully after most other sports become too physically demanding - its one of the attractions. You only need to look at the age profile on leaderboards, even at the highest levels, to see that.
Bruce, your main interest in this would probably be in maintaining your libido for when the days shooting is over and your eager female fans demand your services...

guys,
I am not suggesting anything.
rather wondering how long it will be before these things become necessary to do well.
shooting off a rest has advantages over sling shooting, and even more over offhand etc in not requiring as much coordination and use of muscles.
there is however a need for hand/eye coordination because we need to aim and shoot so fine.
also exhaustion seemed to be a potential at raton, potentially affecting decision making and other things.
I smoke and drink coffee, and know that both things affect eyesight and coordination, as well as hydration.
alan,
my lobido is a thing of the past. the long distant past to be precise. (unlike a certain queenslander's reputation)
I just wish the women would realize this and stop wasting their time and mine. inertia is the word that comes to mind.
danny s on the other hand has kept himself very fit, probably for professional reasons, but it does beg the question. (he hails from sth oz)
keep safe,
bruce.

I think the sport is pretty safe until large wads of cash start moving around and it becomes a sporting profession.
Take the physical demands of highly skilled sports like test cricket, the PGA golf tour, or Formula 1 racing. It's the intense 3 to 5 day events repeated once or twice a month you need to be able to recover from quickly.
Physical conditioning does obviously help, but if you're packing as much talent and skill as Warnie you can worry about it after you have your position cemented in the team.

danny,
you nailed it.
resembling the god Adonis could easily have been my downfall.
instead it has been a heavy cross to bear.
the burden has driven all lobido from me.
I am like a greek god in a greek trajedy.
keep safe,
bruce.
