Hi all,

My sister in law is heading to the States in March to visit her folks. I'm considering ordering a couple of laminate timber rifle stocks and having them sent to her parents place so that she can bring them back with her in person.

Is it O.K to do this generally, or is it illegal?

Are any permits needed?

I had a stock posted and it was confiscated in the US. was going to cost me $250 US for them to release it and then I would have to pay for an exporter.

from the discussions I've had with Australian customs apparently there are no issues with you brining it into Australia without any sort of permit the trouble is on the US end.

I personally wouldn't risk it now days.

Just this morning had confirmation from Richards Microfit in California that they no longer sell outside the USA...not even a blank piece of laminated wood. No reason given.
There is no problem with Aus customs. Spoke to them at the 2012 SHOT show, and no problem with stocks as long as they are not collapsible or have a removeable butt stock.
