Is the SM action body basically a Remington clone? i.e. will drop into Remington style stocks?

I notice dolphin rifles in the UK do a SM in an AICS chassis is this a custom job or a drop in fit?

John, I had read the website, its a little dubious so much as try before you buy, so I was hoping for a little specific info on the SM AICS combo.

Keith Hills puts together rifles with Barnard actions.
You will find him on this web site and I'm sure he will have the wright answer for you.
From what I have read about the S and SM actions they have the same footprint of the rem action. They bolt in the same and use the same trigger.

Looking at dropping an SM action into a AICS stock, would like to build a rifle I can both use in the field and for FTR any advice Keith?

I already have a purposed FClass build and am looking for something j can have a bit if fun with.

Have a look at the Barnard tube stock. On there web site.
The SM action will fit in and you could use it for dual purpose.

Bruce, it's a pity that a percentage of all the actions you mention still need to be "touched" up to be as true as a Barnard! Not only that they are disadvantaged by a higher bolt lift & only 2 lugs

you're up early.
your info on trueness might not be all that correct.
the higher bolt lift is precisely one of the advantages of 2 lugs. better and easier extraction, due to lower gearing.

Bruce, 10 years of part time gun tinkering followed by 35 years of fulltime gunsmithing tells me I am correct!
Obviously you have not used a Barnard, their bolt lift is not as difficult as you would have us believe. Yes you are correct 2 lug actions can & should have an easier bolt lift, but not always the case & it is at the expense of a higher bolt lift! However neither of these points actually make any measurable difference, at the end of the day it is the consistency of quality control & attention to detail from action to action & shipment to shipment that counts & here is where Barnard are the best I have seen.
I also note you failed to mention the Pierce action which is most likely the best of the American actions available!
By the way I actually highly regard the better American actions such as Bat, Stolle & Pierce, not so impressed with the overall quality of the Stillers I have had in my hands, still a good action though & I like them as well.
I respect your opinion Bruce & your right to express it, but it is only that, your opinion, just the same as my comments are my opinion.

Thanks Bruce but I have my heart set on the Barnard, I already use a model P and I find them to be fantastic, strong and simple. Nkt that I have personally had the others you have listed though.

If anyone on here is able to comment on the AICS / Barnard SM fit please let me know... I am making a few other enquiries if I find out first I will post it here...

Pictures of a Barnard SM in both a traditional AICS stock as well as the AX for sale on Sporting Services web site. Bet Graeme would be able to tell you if/how much work was required to fit it.
