Has anyone had any issue out of redding or wilson bushings before? Ive fireformed my shehane cases and done the primer pockets and flash holes and was looking to load up tonight for doing the first stage of my load developement tomorrow at 700m. But it turns out my .311 bushing actually measures .3125 on my micrometer and instead of having 2 thou neck tension on the .313 loaded round, I only have enough to be a slight resistance pushing the projectile in and out by hand. Luckily another shooting is bringing some bushings tomorrow so I can load at the range. Just a PITA and has taught me to measure my bushings when they arrive now!

I've had a few Redding Nitride bushings that were smaller I.D than specified. I've only been using Wilson since and they've been bang on.

I have read it somewhere on the interwebs ( so it must be true ) that Redding specs are the " size to" rather than actual size ie a couple of thou smaller than what is stamped on the bushing..

Dont know. I measured a mates 311 wilson this morning and got the same size. Maybe my verniers are out but I dont see how they measure a loaded round a .313 perfect then the bushing oversize. Anyway used a 310 and got a 60.6 in a ladder test with 4 different loads.

I stopped using Redding Nitride bushings a year or so ago, in fact all Redding bushes. Ordered a range of sizes from the States ready for a new chambering and when they arrived checked them and found 2 that were supposedly 1 thou different measured the same. Had to place an additional order (this time Wilson) to replace the dud. Went thru all my existing Redding bushings (have about 19 in various calibres) and found several more that didn't match the value on them. Now only use Wilson. Also, you cannot get an accurate measurement with verniers. I used Mitutoyo inside gauges and a very good micrometer to then measure the gauges. Wilson have a pronounced taper though which they do state.

See if you can get someone with a micrometer to measure the bore ID for you. At least you'll know what the error is in your verniers even if the bushing is out of spec.

Were they the TiN coated variety or the plain tool steel?

They were wilson steel. Going to try the redding ones next

Ha ha the ones I had trouble with were the Redding Nitride which was really hurtful given the premium you pay for them

Surely a company like Redding would replace them if told of the problem?

Yes I am sure they would (or Sinclairs whom I purchased them from) however I also had a problem with a Sinclair primer pocket uniformer that was cutting 2thou deeper than the max SAAMI spec. Contacted Sinclairs who said "no problem send it back and it will be replaced". No offer to pay for the return shipping though - outcome, I sent it back but it cost me more in postage than it was worth. The risk you take when buying from the US to save over buying onshore is that if something is not quite right you eat up any savings returning the item. The exception to that is I bought an item off Russ Haydons (where I source most of my stuff now) and it was defective - they just sent me a replacement and told me to bin the defective item. Great service! With the bushings I just accepted the loss and moved on. Have also returned other items that failed eg a weather station to Natchez - same result, got a replacement but lost out in total over what I could have bought it locally for. I will certainly never buy electronics again offshore, but an inanimate thing like a bushing should be safe to buy, shouldn't it?? Mmm

Well I couldnt get a redding so I have a wilson on the way... I guess will just shut up and load.

i've read somewhere that either the reddings or the wilsons (can't remember) are actually tapered inside and by turning them upside down you can change the finished neck size. might be worth trying

Wilsons with numbers up should be stated size. Up to half a thou tighter the other way round. Redding apparently should be installed numbers down.
