Equipment List - top tier "Tactical" event in USA

Post by ecomeat »

I just stumbled onto a thread online re the Precision Rifle Series events Equipment List for their championship event just on one year ago.
Given the money spent, and sheer numbers of tactical style shooters in the USA I think we can assume that they are as addicted to precision shooting every bit as much as we F Class purists are, and in that sense I think most would find the Equipment List quite interesting.
The full list is posted here : remember these are the top 55 shooters from all over the USA, and the gear that they competed with at their end of year, Championship event.
http://forum.snipershide.com/snipers-hi ... s-use.html

With 55 shooters recorded, I was interested to see :
Bartlein barrels on 26 of the rifles, followed by Krieger with 20, then Brux with just 6
A massive dominance to Surgeon actions, followed by Defiance
260 the most popular calibre, with not a single 308, 7mm-08, 300 Win or 6.5 x 284 used! 6.5 Creedmoor in second place, then 6XC and 243
No surprise to see the dominance of Schmidt and Bender scopes...21 out of 55,
40 out of 55 using Hodgon 4350, or our AR2209
Top seven all using 6mm's and all shooting 105 gr Berger Hybrids.
I fully appreciate that this is far removed from serious F Class requirements, but still enjoy the info. I can't help thinking that shooting other disciplines doesn't appear to have damaged the performance of Paul Read, Matt Paroz or Rod Davies....................bugger it!

Also interesting to see Geogre Gardner built 11 of the top rifles as well.

I will admit that if I could shoot such a comp, I would as they would be great fun and challenging. But alas F-Open has me now. Along with some dabbling in the Fly and soon 1000yd BR.

Craig,
I am a bit slow.........the penny only just dropped regarding your Templar action !
That is actually quite extraordinary that one guy put 20% of those rifles together. He must be doing something right. I have just had my first good look at the GA Precision website. I had no idea who they were, and only just read that it's the guy who used to own/run Nesika Bay who is now making the Templar actions. I actually tried to buy from Nesika 3 years ago and they wouldn't talk to me, so I bought my second choice, which was BAT.

George builds some awesome rifles. If I ever had the money, I would love one of his M40A1 builds. He also builds some F-Open rifles aswell I think but his main market is the tactical shooters.

Interesting to read....
Willing to bet that without muzzle brakes, all of those rifles would make it into F-Open. And they'd do well enough too, cause at the end of he day they are just accurate rifles.

I agree. I shot my tactical rifle for around a year and a half in FS and FO and went ok but recoil management with a rifle with that, especially with a 308 is difficult at times and the smallest error can throw the shot off. I may well get a 6x47L barrel for it though and I'm sure it would do well for club shoots in a bipod setup.

I wonder how Bradley Bell normally performs? It's hardly a factory rig, but a Tikka T3 in 243W using the heavier 115gr 6mm's must have felt like the black sheep.

I wonder how confident GAP that Bradley would place in the top 8 with a T3 after putting together so many GAP/Defiance actions?

Aaron, It was probably a test for the action aswell. I doubt the T3 would have given up much though. It would have been worked just as much as the Rems and alike that go through the GAP workshop.

What do you think the price difference between a T3 and a Defiance action would be after gunsmithing?

If the difference was USD$500, I don't know that would be enough to justify the risk given the overall spend (USD$3,000??) on the entire rifle with the S&B scope, Bartlien barrel and KGR stock.

I didn't see any March scopes, but is was good to see the humble Bushnell and Vortex hold their own against the S&B's in the tactical match anyway.

Maybe the AWC suppressor got Wade Stuteville home in the end?
