With the growth in the number of F Class shooters, I believe that we should think about having the number of shooters in State Teams increased from 5 to 10 shooters, same as Target Rifle.
The VRA has already taken this step in the last 2 F Class DRA Teams events.
We would need to have our State Associations approach NRAA, so now is probably a good time to get the ball rolling, and we can make Tassie the last time we are restricted to 5 person teams.

I have been to all 3 previous State Team events, and I am going to Tasmania next year. I know what goes on behind the scenes putting a team together,

In South Australia we have seen great growth in the number of people shooting F Class. However, this growth has come from young people who are still working.

South Australia was not in favour of extending the event to 3 days. The length of the event does make it harder for those who must earn a living.

We don't find it easy to field teams because most of our shooters have families, and must work.

After the event in Tasmania, several of our team members have to rush home because of commitments.

We should concentrate on getting all States to field a team. In past events, not all States have been represented. Larger Teams would make this even more difficult for those who stuggle with numbers.

It is more important for the competition to be comprehensive and strong, than for the teams to be large.

I agree, I think 5 person team is good. I am a younger shooter who works FIFO and have been lucky enough to get leave for the competition and the Tassie Queens. I dont think WA for one would be able to field a 10 man FO team. We have been lucky to get 5.

and what about getting each state with an ftr team?
this should be strongly on the agenda in terms of fielding the best ftr team possible internationally.

Nope WA is still developing its shooters and its at the point where basically who ever can afford it and is willing to go is pretty much on the team- to a point anyway. 5 shooters is fine by me. Hopefully in a few years time we will be able to put up teams that are chosen by trials a bit more and captains/managers etc can concentrate on their jobs without having to worry about shooting too.

Agree with Bruce, now it will be in our SSR's- F/TR should be offered as well.

There probably always will be significant differences in available shooters between the various S & Ts in both Open and Standard, and now F/TR. I'm wondering if it would be better to have multiple 5 (or 4) man teams? And then allow cooperative wind coaching between pairs of teams, which will prepare coaches for the ICFRA coaching format.

The question is "can we field 10 shooters?" not "can we field 10 top grade shooters?" I know that a team is only as good as it's poorest shooter, but every team is in the same boat in that respect, and that is the reality of team competition. If you look at each State F Class grading list, it is obvious that there are enough shooters available to make up a 10 person team.
I see the same people on this website bleating about the disparity between F Class and TR, and when I suggest we get on parity with TR, they all back off. This an opportunity to take F Class forward in my view.
When VRA called for nominations for F Class teams, we got 14 in FS and a similar number in FO. I had to cut my FS squad from 14 to 6 ( 5 shooters and 1 emergency ) and that hasn't made me feel very good, because there wasn't a great difference between any of them, and a lot of them are going to Tassie whether they got in the team or not.
As to FTR, I support it to the point that I moved the motion that the VRA introduce it into the 2014 Queens, with a Badge and prize list. When every State can field a team in FTR, 5 person or whatever, then let's include it in the National Teams event.

Can 5 mates get together, form their own team and take on the State teams?

Thinking that maybe there is room for a sponsor to get on board and form a team as well?

No, you cannot have 5 mates take on the state team.
Suggest you talk to somebody in your area ( Alan Fraser, Noel Osborne ) and learn all about how it works.

I thought that is how it worked, but after following exploits of the Aussie team in the USA I noticed how they had various teams in their competitions.
I think it is a good thing to have more people shooting in events.

Not a bad idea though Barry. The US Nationals do something like that. Some teams are from their national squad, some are state teams, some are corporate sponsored teams, and some are just a group of mates. Its a good way of including everyone.

If this event was the national teams championships I agree Alan it would be a great thing. Would love to see it. But since its the national state teams championships nobody would have a bar of it I wouldnt think.

A national teams event similar tonthatnin the states would be great I think.
