Hi all just after a bit help re the weight of 308 28 to 30 inch barrel around a 6 to 7 profile and mabe fluting to help loose some more weight. The reason for the question is I am thinking of trying FTR and l have a good idea on the weight of my rifle without a barrel.Stock 2kg ,scope and rings .890gms ,Action 1.4 KG Bipod .550 gms ,scope rail .150gms so around 5kg KG without a barrel.Given FTR is 8.25 KG with a bipod this leaves around 3KG.So have some of you picked up any barrels lately fluted and chambered and threaded to fit a Barnard P action and if so what weight is it.Thanks

G'day Mike,

For F/TR I've been using a 32" Krieger Palma profile which comes in at 2.3kg chambered and threaded and a 34" fluted Krieger which weighs 2.4kg. That's if my kitchen scales are to be believed.

Alan great work!
I like the use of chambering parameters too.
Have you been copying my barrel choices of late

I haven't been allowed any new barrels since over-indulging in the 12 months prior to the FCWC...

Nice spreadsheet Alan!
I think you got a dimension wrong on your palma barrel. Have a look at muzzle dia, its marked 1.25"

Ian,
Any of the yellow boxes can be changed. I must have been checking that the PALMA calc gave the same result as the Parallel by making it 1.25 parallel. So no problem with that.

My whole mission last year was barrels and overall weights.
I actually put together a bipod myself that was very low weight, 360grams.
The reason I went down this path is I felt for the longer 15 and 20 shot matches a heavier profile was needed, I currently run 2 No.7 WW profile Maddco's one in 1:12 the other 1:10 for 185's and 200's respectively...
I have inserted a Maddco barrel chart for you to look over, I hope it comes up, if not I will email to the boss man to put up (Unless someone can tell me how to attach images??)
Alan has me sorted, thanks mate!!

Thank goodness for F Open weight limits. I just ordered a 1.275" parallel 6mm barrel for a Dasher which comes in at 4.85kg...good thing I've just swapped my Nightforce BR scope for a March as I may have to count the grams now.
