No huge surprises here, but some may be interested to know what the F Open shooters chose for the Teams event just concluded in Tasmania
284 Win = 11
7 mm SAUM = 7
260 AI. = 4
284 Shehane = 3
6.5 x 47 Lap. = 2
7 WSM = 1
6.5 x 284. = 1
6 Dasher =. 1

The winning SA Team chose 3 x 7mm SAUMs and 2 x 284 Win
Second placed NQRA chose 5 x 284 Win
The highest score was shot with a 7mm SAUM.......and Bruce Moulds would already know that it was a 2 lug BAT

Total score for the 30 shooters was 6760, so that means the average was 225.... and the sole 6mm entrant (Grant Groves from Vic) shot 226, which is 1 point above the average ! It was also the same score as my own, (284 Win) except my miserable total of 8 "X's" was rather humbled by Grants 17 !

The highest X count throughout the Teams Match , of 20, went to NQRA's Peter Carter with his 284 Win

The highest score in the Long Range class (2 x 1000 yards) was shared by Marty Lobert (NQRA using 284 Win) and Adam Pohl (SA using 7mm SAUM) with 138-07.
Peter Smith was 3rd with a 284 Win and 138-04, whilst a 260 AI that was very well driven by Brad Yates from WA more than held its own with 138-03

marty used to use a 2 lug action as well. possibly still does.
that big lug holding up the barrel is a sure fire way to reduce vert.
what is interesting is how the 6.5 compared to the saums. just a few Xs less.
this could be about the level of forgiveness given by the higher bc bullet in the real world.
lobert's 284 equalled the saum in the 15 shotter. like marty says, let the bc do the work.
in the end, accuracy counts, either in a team or as an individual. all the good scores were shot by guys who walked the mile and got their guns humming.

Go the 6.5's

The plots would probably confirm if particular calibres were losing points with elevation or windage. It probably all goes out the window again with recoil management and getting the most out the optics.

On our teams plot sheets (we mostly ran 260AI's apart from one SAUM in the 900 and 1000yds) were very positive in terms of showing good waterline (apart from the guns I pulled off the line) but the SAUM does show a better X count where the 6.5mm's did need a little more work to keep in the X ring. However in terms of holds, both were very close to the same (we held instead of wound wind for each shot- it helped us run the condition quicker)
