Thin Skin

Finally got round to fire forming the last of the first 100 cases for my .30-284 last Saturday, but opted to do it off the bench at the zero range because the mound turned out to be a comedy of errors - snail paced changeovers, faulty extractors resulting in cleaning rod extractions, etc. - all the usual BS.

Hooray, at last, except that Monday, my elbow started bleeding when I barely rubbed a rough spot on the work bench downstairs & I've developed tennis elbow of sorts. In hindsight, it seems that my wet suit foam elbow pads & a folded towel on the bench weren't quite enough to counter the grunt of 60 210 grain SMKs going down range.

OK. What do other thin skinned geriatrics use for elbow protection? I've heard that some of the skate gear is handy, but specifics would help.

Depends on the downward pressure of the elbow.
For TR, I've used Sorbothane Duro 35 for the sling elbow
For F class, suggest trying the Shooter pad which is a gel pad

John, I reckon this is worth its weight in gold, really good when your on gravel or concrete mounds.

Thanks, folks. I'll get something real soon.

Andrew,

I didn't want to use up the pills I've selected to load, so the forming load was the odds & ends left over from match rifle with a moderate load of 2209 - no expectation of excellence there. It shot OK first time at 500, but I'll get into working up something serious this week.

John, Protec skate elbow pads are excellent for off the mound and BR shooting. I use them as does Barry Southern.

I'm getting a tad short term anal these days. James, I just cut the pad off my JJJ travelling mat. Since I started shooting F Class, I've used the thing bottom end forward, so it's redundant.
