NQRA Queens F-Open Blog

Post by AlanF »

Hello all. I arrived in Townsville yesterday, and will be shooting the Townsville Marksmen RC OPM, then the leadup, then the Queens. Should be a very good field in Open e.g. Marty Lobert, Peter Smith, Dave Stewart are all expected, and I ran into Paul Pestbird Janzso this avo. Dave McNamara sounded doubtful a few days ago, so that could improve the chances of the rest of us!

I couldn't get phone or web access from the range, but am staying closer to town and have good signal strength, so hope to be able to give updates nightly, and maybe scores if the NQRA isn't able to.

They're saying rain is predicted for tomorrow. I asked if they would shoot through the rain - the answer was they didn't know, its never happened before! :D

Back tomorrow night.

Looking forward to a running commentary through the OPM and Lead Up to keep us in the loop :D
Kelvin Bell should be there by now, with Wild Dog probably not far away, and myself and Craig McGowan due in Thursday night just for the Queens . Kelvin kindly carted a lot of gear for "others", inc my front rest, and all of Fairbairns gear. Jason Mayers will be there as well, and I am assuming he will shoot FTR (bloody good place for him, coz he has got those big 30 cal pills going really well!)
Any NSW shooters venturing up ? What about our sartorially elegant cousins from SA ? We might have a "de-brief" on Friday night at the Cowboys home game if any of Paroz, Davies,Nugent, Henry, Rigby ! Ferrara etc make it up ?.......a re-run of the ACT !

Cam,
Any such extortion will possibly come at the point of handover of the essential items :D  :D
Can you picture Mark still begging for his ammo with the RO screaming at him to get down and shoot ? :D

Josh, that looks like salubrious dining conditions at "Camp Cox", even an expresso machine =D> You will have lots of new friends by the end of the weekend.
Hopefully you all get very wet today and tomorrow as forecast, and then it will be clear weather right through the Queens !

Thanks Josh - great photos. BTW looks like the NQRA will be posting results constantly over the next fwe days on the NRAA website.

For today's results see http://www.nraa.com.au/townsville-marksmen-rifle-club-open-prize-meeting-results/

We had rain (warm rain!) which started just after I finished at 900m :D . I got an answer to my question - no, they don't stop for rain...

Regarding F-Open results today, there was some talk of testing loads, using up old brass, projectiles etc., so don't base your form guide too much on the results. The only one who said he was really trying was Marty :D :D .
