Neck expanding lube.

About to expand up another box of 6.5 brass for the .30-284. Last time, I ran them with Ideal wax applied with a bristle brush rolled through the wax & they worked OK, but I also have some lanolin/castor oil mix lurking somewhere & a bottle of STP with nothing to do.
What's your preference?

STP will work very well.

I use Hornady case sizing wax (comes in a nugget size tin). Just touching the mouth of the neck on the surface of the wax (about enough to leave a circle on the wax) puts a smidgeon on the neck mouth, enough to expand with a mandrel, then immediately neck size if required.

John, I too use imperial sizing wax and have had no split necks or other issues in several thousand shells. Not quite sizing as far as you are but still is good stuff. I am sure the others will work as well.

I use Imperial Sizing Die Wax for all my sizing and find it works great.
I have done a lot of expanding to 30 cal, even 6.5x68S to 30cal (30 BOO BOO)
If you are concerned about the jump in expansion run a 7mm expander first then the 30 cal expander.
Cheers

I guess it's what ever works for you.
I use lanolin grease. A small tub and push the case necks straight in.
Clean up with shelite.

I've always used lanolin for all case lubing and forming and have had no trouble ever. Even taking 300 RUM cases out to 458 was no problem. The stuff is cheap to buy from the chemist, a small pot lasts at least 10 years and it is even supposed to be good for you if you get it on your hands (which you always do).
Regards Malcolm.

It may sound strange but the best sizing and case forming lube I have found is Unifilter oil.
This stuff is the best case lube I have used and handles heavy forming tasks with ease. I clean it off with thinners.
