Hi all

I just thought there may be some interest in knowing that the teams portion of the inaugural Benchrest World Rimfire Championships has just concluded. Top 4 teams results are; Australia A 1st, Italy B 2nd, Australia B 3rd, Australia C 4th. Hosting venue is the Volmerange-Les-Mines in France.

What rimfire rules do they shoot internationally & why don't the septics participate?

The sanctioning body is the World Benchrest Shooters Federation. They have their own rule book, but all the Aussies are using rifles and other equipment that complies with SSAA rimfire custom class, eg a 14lb rifle, 3" foreend, etc.

Why no USA teams? Biggest issue is that the WBSF affiliates with one body (and only one body) in each member country. In the USA, this is the NBRSA. In the USA, the NBRSA is predominantly an organisation representing centerfire shooters (group, score and long range BR). The NBRSA does also sanction rimfire matches, but they are not a significant force in RF competition. There is more to it than that, but thats the short answer.

Its a shame because a number of Americans were driving forces in establishing the centrefire world championships back in the early 1990s, and this has had a significant impact on the growth of centerfire BR internationally over the last 20 years.

Well, Aussies are off to a good start in the individual competition, with the top 3 places, plus 5th.

Yes, great finish. Australia takes 4 of the top 5 places in the individual standings. A great result for Australia for the entire 4 days.

And aside from South Africa, every other team is competing in the own back yard (relatively speaking). So when you consider what the Australians had to go through to get there, and be competitive, its just a fantastic result.

Congratulations to the entire team and individuals.

I'm an avid Rimfire shooter at club level, but not in benchrest, which I hadn't realized was even an event. I shall now chase it up.
