Just wondering with switch barrel rifles and cleaning a barrel that has been removed from the action. Are bore guides still used or ? Probably a silly question but.

Yes, I still use a bore guide to guide the rod through the barrel, so the rod doesn't wear on the first section of the barrel. I will usually not use the bore guide for the last dry patch or two, just so it cleans out the chamber on its way through.

I asked Phil Jones to "invent" me a female threaded pipe section about 8" long that would screw onto the thread on the barrel, and hold a normal bore guide perfectly in position for cleaning a barrel as Danny has described.
Unfortunately he reckons that building a house for he and the bride, and thus saving his marriage, is more important than my desired attachment

I still reckon it could work well, even if made out of Delrin instead of metal, coz it sure is a pain in the butt trying to hold a guide centre in the chamber with one hand while you clean with the other.

Ah, not such a silly question then, thanks Rod and Tony. I'm thinking a cylinder that screws onto the action, could be nylon etc, that accepts a Dewey rod guide.

The Sinclairs style guides slip nicely and firmly into the chamber as it is, so there is no need for anything special, just buy them off the shelf.

Try a discarded cartridge case with a rod sized hole drilled in the base, cheaper than all the "fancy" fittings & you don't have to wait for houses to be built!!!
