This a great improvement as it gives you the option of saving a draft.
Very useful when you need to look elsewhere for info to include.

Thank you Alan, I believe that this brings the forum up to a new/higher level.

(It is very similar in format to another forum on which I am a member).

Looks good Alan!

What do they say...a change is as good as a holiday...that's the closest some of us get to a holiday.

I like it thanks Alan.

Is it only a new look or is it a complete update?

If its an update will it allow embedding of youtube video?............. I haven't tried yet with this new look. I couldn't get it to work on the old one.

Denis,

YouTube videos have always worked as a link only (i.e. no picture on the post). You just copy and paste the URL into your post, and surround it with [url]....[/url].

Yes this is the latest version of phpBB forum software. Its the first time I've upgraded it since 2005 (!) so overdue. It is actually a different colour scheme from the previous one, but otherwise very similar. It has better tools for keeping spammers out which I'm just coming to grips with.

Alan,

I'm not sure, but members may also be able to do a custom layout of the forum to get an individual look if they don't like the standard view.
Its an option on my forum so everyone can be happy.

Norm,
Your forum runs on vBulletin, which is another "brand". I've had a look through the administrative settings on mine and can't find anything that allows personal configuration of the style. I do have the old style still available, hopefully with all the other improvements, so will have a look to see if its an option for the whole board.

Thats what I was asking about Alan. I realise that the links worked but I've never been able to emved the video so that it plays from within the forum page.

I think it's supposed to work as follows if capable.

[youtube]<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/6tOpmcSOzMU?version=3&amp;hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/6tOpmcSOzMU?version=3&amp;hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>[/youtube]

Denis
The code you've shown is using a custom BBCode ([youtube]). This forum is currently using a few basic supplied BBCodes and I don't propose to add any more at this stage, mainly because my html skills are pretty basic, and it would take too much shooting time to do it. :) If someone has the time and the skills to do these things, I'd consider giving them access for that purpose.

Okay. Back close to the old look, but with the advantages of the new version.

I must say I like this better - feels more like home.... :D
