I have a Centra LR rear sight the side elevation plate of which has developed a hairline fracture.

Anyone know if we have an agent for Centra in Oz that I might contact for repair or who/where else I might be able to purchase a replacement plate from or affect a repair?

John

James Corbett is the agent.

I have sent an email off to James but so far no reply.
The Triple J site shows that he has rear sight Irises for sale but beyond that not sure about other items, repairs and bits and pieces.

John,
I have a Centra sight which came with my old Omark. It looked like it once had a fracture in the base of the elevation plate which had been repaired with silver solder. I'm guessing the rifle fell over at one point in it's life and they always land on the sights! I didn't use it a lot but when I did it worked fine. If you or a gunsmith you know is good at silver soldering then that would likely make a good repair to the fracture and make the sight useable.
Cheers,
Richard

Thanks Razer. I received a reply from James at Triple J. He sends repairs back to the manufacturer - long lead time involved. Had just recently sent a batch off but probably wont be sending another for 2-3 months then another couple of months maybe for the repair and return.

Thanks Richard for your reply. Thinking maybe that your sight was a Central sight (Australian made and of steel) and not a Centra sight (German made and of alloy). The solder might do the job and it's there as an option if I can't get a replacement plate.

John,
You are right, I was confused with the Central (steel) sight. Silver solder won't work if the fracture is in the alloy. Other options I could suggest is micro TIG welding and re-machining/re-finishing although this is getting quite specialised and possibly expensive. Depending on where the fracture is it may be possible to drill and tap across the fracture with one or two very fine screws to reinforce it along with a high strength permanent Loctite type adhesive. That might get you out of the woods until a replacement arrives.
Cheers,
Richard.

Thanks Richard.Won't go the TIG route but the screw and locktite sounds like something that would work. Will wait a bit to see what other leads I might get first before trying it. At the moment the side plate is being held in place by the sliding elevation vernier plate and as long as this keeps it there I should still be able to keep using it without it affecting shot placement - as I said it's a hairline fracture so not even a pfffteenth of a minute in it - so long as it holds.

For the sake of anyone that might be in a similar position I'd like to report on a successful outcome to the issue.
After receiving a care factor zero response :^o from two state associations that were good on talk but zip on follow up I put in an enquiry to Action Clear in WA that sells the Centra sight.
The response was both immediate and helpful. For the princely sum of $20 I am now :) a happy camper.

Thanks to those that responded with help to my enquiry and thanks in particular to Chris Quartermaine at Action Clear - Katanning WA.
