Hoping someone can confirm I've got this right. If I've got a close range wind zero will I need to put on about 3/4 of a minute left for 1000yds in calm conditions?

If there is 0 wind, there is no need to put on any wind on any range.
A straight will not curve just because it is long.

Yep depends on twist rate etc but spin drift does come in to it at the longs .some of my barrels can be 1/2 to 1 out .most of my wind zeros are at a 1000 if and when you get a good day to do it as it not that often I shoot shorts and it is likely to be a different scope or rifle. cheers Paul...

Barry, are you referring to spin drift? A bullet out of a right twist barrel will ever so slightly drift to the right. By how much depends on the projectile and velocity.
What projectile are you using at what speed? And barrel twist?

Thanks guys. FWIW 210gr SMK at 2690 from a 1:10. I reckoned about 8" less a couple for coriolis in this part of the world.
Of course it will probably pale into total insignificance seeing as I'm going to the accursed godforsaken Lower Light range where I'll be deciding whether to put on 20 or 25 minutes of wind!!
Cheers

Barry,
I shot my MR at 500 yards yesterday & yes, it seemed to be carrying about ½ MOA right zero over what worked the previous weekend at Raglan. That's with 210 Berger VLDs running at around 2670.

Barry, quite a few of the ballistic calcs have this function these days.
If your like me shooting heavies out of tight twists, fast when you get to 900+ you will notice it!
Spin drift is real!

Haha haha yep had bit of a play at the longs over the last couple of months out there and had nothing under 5moa on and some fast changes so at the longs I doubt you'll notice it.
Biggest tip is practice. Practice setting your gear up while trying to stop your mat blowing away.

I've got well developed skills at that - it blows a bit here at Rosedale from time to time too. Biggest problem is trying to stop my caravan annex getting blown to shreds while I'm shooting.

Hi Jason
The one you get with Bryan Litz's book claims to do it but doesn't - well not on my ageing computer anyway. Just gives me a bunch of zeroes.

Formula gives 6.5 inches and ballistic app gives 0.75 moa for your data.
So I guess that confirms what you had.

Barry,
The SARA Queens series only goes to 800. Are you shooting one of the other LR events?

for long/short range zeroes,it also helps if the axis of the bore, mounts and scope align in the vertical plane.
cheers

It only matters if the wind goes over centre Barry. The only successes I have had at long ranges, the wind velocity may have changed a bit,but have always been constant from one side.Flat out at the moment loading ammo for Lower Light.Hope to catch up with the Match Rifle and Long Range F/class crew there. The plan is to shoot FTR in the Queen's,then follow on with Match Rifle.
Mike.
