I'm considering FTR and was wondering if anyone has had experience with these barrels ?

NO experience of them, but I have heard them mentioned, but I cant really see why you would want one. Weight is an issue with FTR, but I am under weight with a Competition Nightforce scope, quite a heavy hardwood ply stock and a Barnard action with a Border medium Palma barrel which are quite heavy as they are long barrels. My current bipod is a modded Sinclair one which is quite heavy to start with and I have added weight to stiffen it up (over 800g I cant remember exactly). I made a prototype ftr bipod which the missus is currently using and it is very stable indeed and it is only 500g. In her gun she could have a stand that was over a kg if she wanted and still have weight spare. My feeling is you want weight up front or your gun is going to leap all over the place.

Hello Tim,

I think it is an expensive option for the weight saved. OSA offer a complete rifle but no barrel blanks. They maybe able to do a individual barrel, but the cost would be prohibitive.

There is a New Zealand Company ( Bronco Sports ) that is making complete rifles and barrles, but again they may not do unchambered barrels. This may be a cheaper option if they are willing to produce a barrel?

If I could get a very stiff 34" long barrel I wouldn't mind one as long as the actual barrel bore quality was good. Advertised as handling long shot strings better which might be a side benefit??

Get over it,it is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist,but then creates it's own problems.My only experience with them is observing one at Raglan in 2010. A British visitor had one,I think it was well used but it was still OK at home before he left.Once it warmed up it started to drop shots big time,

Sounds like it's not required, but as technology increases everyone is looking for improvements.

A bit off topic, and Omarks are great, I have two and the missus has one also, but we both have Barnards too... The big but is both our shooting has come leaps and bounds with the Barnards. Scope wise too I won a comp JUST BECAUSE I had a new Competition Nightforce. I was in the top couple, I watched the flags went to pull the trigger and through the scope I saw the mirage change direction. I looked up and saw the flags had changed and I saw a few 5's and 4's too a few seconds later on other targets. My old Sightron would not show these subtle changes and it is not a bad scope, so clear so as much as good gear is not needed it does make a difference when you need every point.

I almost did at the Queens and just as I was squeezing the trigger the target went down. It took me a second to realize what was going on. If it was the new electronic targets being used at the time I would not have got away with it
