Has anyone tried one of these? I have just ordered one on ebay and am hoping that it will be able to let me see how effective my barrel cleaning is. For $20 it is certainly worth a try.

I will Josh. If it works as good as they say it does it will be handy to save pics for comparison later. I don't think I will be doing any endoscopies though..

If it works, and at that price, Gradient Lens/Hawkeye will be out of business overnight !
The 6cm focal distance (6cm to infinity) might cause you some grief, but for $20-00 it's got to be worth trying. Any sort of view into the bore will be a big plus, compared to normal cleaning without anything.
Add me to the list of those who are keen as mustard to hear how it goes !
My last Hawkeye cost me well over AUD$900-00 delivered, with the right angle eyepiece .

I just got one too. Well spotted

With a 5cm tube attached and a small mirror glued into the end of the tube at an angle, it should be able to focus directly onto the lands.
Worth a try anyway.

I heard rumours Lyman were going to do a digital borescope soon....

Tried one early last year, wasn't impressed.

No not the Lyman, one of these cheapies, chucked it in the bin.

Hawkeye 17" angled eye piece from Bruno's Shooting Supplies USA, $1198 delivered + stung $178 from customs for exceeding the A$1000.00 mark this month (damn the Australian dollar). Kind of hope the ebay ones aren't toooooo good!!!

Mate had one similar but not sure if exactly the same as the OP's ebay one.
Showed my mate my Hawkeye one day. He looked in his barrel and said sh.t and promptly bought a Hawkeye.

For anyone thinking of buying a Hawkeye (other than those obviously who have posted here that they have one) don't make the mistake I did - take a hit all at once and get the right angled eyepiece at the same time.

Be thankful your Oz duties/gst don't cut in till $1000. In NZ the value it $400

I reckon the right angle eyepiece is the best part of mine ! With 32" straight cylinder barrels,you can have a leisurely, careful look inside without feeling like you have been to the gym for a workout. I let a lot of "non owners" use mine when they ask, and accidents (broken or bent expensive toys) are far less likely to happen when a first time user can leave the rifle sitting in a horizontal rest and isnt trying to juggle a rifle and my borescope at the same time.
So i am with our kiwi friend 6.5 x 55ai on this one.........get the right angle eyepiece. Its safer, easier and makes it quite simple to take photos and short videos with a digital camera, so they can be shared on-line.
I also recommend getting the LED upgrade for the mini-maglite light source off Ebay. Its a much whiter and brighter light and only about $25 ex the UK

Barry. I'm with Tony on the angled eyepiece it just makes the scope far more user friendly and saves having to get into an awkward position to look in the chamber end of many rifles with the stock still in place. I also would not be without it. The LED upgrade to the mini mag light is also a no brainer as mini mag light globes don't last long before the bulb goes black and they chew up batteries surprisingly quickly. The only disadvantage is sometimes with a very clean and polished barrel it can be a bit bright and glarey but altering the focus of the light gets things sorted out.
