Hi everyone!
One of the guys at the club is getting into f/tr with a 1-12 twist barrel.
Has anyone had any good/ bad experiences with that twist rate and juggernaut's and do you have any advice on where to start or finish with loads and jump vs jam?
Thanks in advance!

If there is any chance of changing the barrel twist I would advise 1/10 minimum 1/11.
My experience is mainly with 1/10 which works well.
having said that I can offer no advice on 1/12 which I have not used for 185 Jug only 155.

I have tried 185's in a 1:12 without success.
As Shane said 1:10 or 1:11 for 185's
If this is not a new barrel, then I would just continue to use 155's until it is time to change.

I don't want to disagree with Shane and Linda, and I can't prove otherwise,as the slowest twist barrel I use is 1-11 but Berger suggests that 1-12 twist is suitable for 185 Juggernaughts .Having said that,I know from experience that 1-10 twist barrels shoot very well with 155 grain projectiles, and if you want to follow the leader,do what Shane does, you won't go wrong.
Mike.

Thanks for your help! It's not for me but at the moment the he's having a go with the rifle he has and looking at building something dedicated down the track.
He is the first at our club to give ftr a go with heavier bullets so it's a learning curve. I was thinking the 1-10 would probably be the go when he gets serious.

I'm shooting Juggs out of a 30" 1:12 Lilja. No problems at all.
Managed to shoot them from a 28" 1:13 TrueFlite barrel last season, so not sure if I just got lucky or if the whole twist rate thing is a bit over-rated...
Both barrels had 170 thou throats.

you should be fine with the 1-12 twist i have shot them in two different barrels
1-14 and 1-12 both worked great out to 900m or 100yards. at 250m ASL in Ottawa Canada
My speeds were higher upper 2700 fps .

I used 1:12 for juggs and VLD's, both loads were exceptional.
No using 1:10 for 200's, but considering a 2nd setup for 185's mainly due to availability issues, ill use the 185's for club shoots.

All my new barrels are 1 in 10 as I shoot heavier projectiles now but I have a Border 1 in in 12 which tac drives 185 Jugs. I would never buy a 1 in 12 now though as it is too limiting weight wise, but they will spin 185's for sure.

John Whidden (2016 US LR Champion) likes a 1 in 10 for 155s!
