Hi all,
A new rifle range has been approved, a couple of SSAA guys have a new range of up to 3 km approved.
50BMG approved at Ivanhoe, private range membership and looking for new members to shoot long range. I need to find out more details but apparently state Government and Police approved to shoot up to 3km. No ME limits. I can't give more details just yet, stay tuned.

Ivanhoe NSW I'd be guessing, not suburban Melbourne.

Melbourne is the closest state capital - about 7hrs. Adelaide and Canberra are also closer than Sydney.

I have seen the range details and the range is on a large area of private property in the middle of nowhere. So no issue with getting a 4km range template fall out zone. I will be joining as a member.
Although a long way from where I live, it will give me the opportunity to shoot a variety of calibres in competition. Competitions that are conducted at a distance beyond 1000 yards have a special appeal to me. They are unique and offer a real challenge that will test your long range shooting skills.

Roy, I reckon a car pool with some others in our area might be on the cards. A lot of F Open guns will make the distance, but I wouldn't mind screwing a 338 Edge barrel into my F Open gun for some serious long range fun.

I would be in that but will have to do some work on my 223 loads

Is the range in Ivanhoe running 1000yd, 1 mile and 2000yd competitions in the same format at the LRSC in Mildura?
http://www.lrsc.org.au/wp-content/uploa ... -7-13a.pdfMembership in one of these clubs would be a genuine reason to own a big 375, a 416 Barret or a 50 BMG.

From what i've been told, they will be running full weekends of distance shooting to make the trip worthwhile.
And yes, Ivanhoe NSW. Also trying for an association with an American 50BMG club. It could be be a great venue with enough members. It still needs a lot of work to get it going though. Now the approvals are in, work can start i believe.
Norm, you probably know as much as me about the range. i'll speak to the guy that's running the range to find out more info. From what i was told yesterday, it appears he would be a great spokesperson to have on our side.

I'll join that club for sure, even if its just for 1-2 shoots a year.

Geoff,
I have been waiting for the membership to open up for over a year. Now that the range has approval things should move ahead.
With the hot summer conditions out of the way, maybe a combined working bee and shooting weekend can get the ball rolling.

10 hours and 930km. I'd go there for a shoot for sure over a weekend or something.

1,570km or 16h 39min according to Google Maps.
Must be isolated if I have to travel SW to Hay and then take sharp right North for another 210km just to get to town.
A long long weekend maybe.
