.30-06AI anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has done any serious F-Class shooting with a .30-06AI.
The .280AI seems to do a reasonable job so don't see why the .30 cal version wouldn't be just as accurate.

Ian Pavy has one which goes well. I have one in the pipeline - so far have only got as far as forming some cases.

300 wsm seems to be getting good accuracy... if you have to use a std boltface there are the 30-06 AI and 30-284 as alternatives
not many people having a go but you would be able to get up to the allowed energy limits in vic & qld with 230 bergers and these cases
so i guess its an option. ... i would love to hear from anyone who has done it....

I wouldn't attempt it with the 284 case. In my experience the heavier the 7mm bullet, the greater likelihood of loose primer pockets, so the 230gn 30 cal would presumably be worse again, so not viable to be loaded to fully exploit the powder capacity. I remember "pestbird" Janzso trying a 30-284 early in his career - he didn't stick with it, so presumably it didn't work for him.

Alan, I think you are right with the heavy pill. If any, I'm thinking a jumped tune would be the way to go to reduce the pressure spike heavy pills induce to save primer pockets. Perhaps the long, narrow case design of a 30-06 has a direct thrust on the primer; and alternatives with a fatter, squatter case may absorb the direct pressure a bit.

Got some 9.3x62 cases on their way. Looking at necking them down to 30 cal or necking them down and shortening a whisker for 7mm. Either try to make a shehane from 9.3x62 or keep it as a 30 cal, put a brake on it and shoot it as a HG in 1000yd BR.
