Hi can someone please advise me if building a rifle on a Remington 700 action is going to be accurate enough for F Class standard or FTR.
Cheers Tod

There have been a few key actions which have been mass produced, that can be used to produce fine accuracy for target shooting and the Rem 700 is one of them, because there is so much aftermarket armouring equipment about to blueprint these actions and so much has been written on how to go about these processes. Most of which you can still get from Brownelles or Manson. There is a profusion of stocks than can be bought to fit the Rem 700.
However, my feeling is, that an off the shelf rifle like this is too sloppy in its tolerances to be competitive with the best gear unless you want to learn the armouring trade and make a few blues along the way. If you have someone dress one of these actions up for you, then you end up spending the cost of buying a custom action in the first place.
My advice is to buy the best equipment you can afford. There is great value in buying something like a Barnard with exceptional tolerances and spare part availability. Sourcing a suitable stock to fit any action that gives a suitable balance in the bags is the next hurdle you have. David.

Couldn't agree with David more. The time and $$$$ spent on 700 to get it right you'd be better off with a custom action be it Pierce or Barnard etc.

If you get lucky enough to find a trued R700 though. They are very accurate. I have two, both done by probably one of the best gunsmiths Australia has and they are awesome.
