Hi all I have a 6.5x47 on the build and have some 140gr jlk's that I would like to use, has anyone had any experience with this combination. Load recipes etc.. will be with a 30" barrel. .Cheers

Guessing you would want to be using 2209 with 140's. Im not familiar with loads but. I do know 37.5gr of 2208 behind a 130gr bullet was really good. In a fast barrel you might get over 2800 with the 140's but you could also hit the pressure limits before then too. Double based powders like RL15, RL17 etc might help with velocity.

I have a 6.5x47 with a maddco 30" barrel 1 to 8 twist.I use 2209 40.5gn and 140 hybrids Berger.Many shooters with the same calibre use the same set up,and some are more successful than others.

I'm only new to the 6.5x47 and haven't messed around with 140gr pills, but currently running 40.6gr 2209 with a 130gr Berger and magnum primers with excellent results.

I think if you search the forums there was a discussion on the 6.5x47L and from memory the general consesus was that 130gr pills were ideal for it. The 136gr lapua L's might also be good. Alot of people use them with 123gr bullets too for short to mid ranges.

Thanks for the reply guys I realize most people run either the 123gr or the 130gr pills but as I have a 6br for the shorts I would like something a little more for the longs.. just thought I would ask what some others have found successful. .

This story is reflected in many (but not all) 6.5*47 owners.

Early on I had a few 6.5*47 barrels as soon as this cartridge hit our shores as did/does a friend of mine. We also got keen on the rel17/140 combo - burnt out a couple of barrels trying to get consistency from that load and should have realised earlier that it wasn't going to work. Then moved to 2209. This was ok but basically found we were maxing out case capacity before getting really great performance and I think the compressed loads just took away a bit from the consistency we could achieve. Perhaps some with slightly longer throats or differentt batches of powder/primers or even just different barrels etc may have had better success - things I know now but didn't then. It wasn't bad but the next combo just seemed to get better scores and consistency for all of us up here. Ultimately we moved onto 2208 and 123 and 130 grain and believe we found the home for the 6.5*47. It is a magnificent cartridge for these pills and at 2900-3000 doesn't lose much all the way to 1000 over a 140 doing 2800. You will end up asking yourself why you would pick up the 6BR again???

Anyway - by all means try 2209 (start at 40gn and work up) and 140 and see if it works in your barrel/ chamber combo. If not perhaps try 2208 with same but build up slowly (from 35). Finally don't be afraid to go back to 2208 and the 130 Berger VLD with a 10-15 thou jam (start at 36 and work up should find something in the 37's)- you will most probably not be disappointed as has worked very well in every barrel I have seen (some jump a little ok too). I haven't used the JLK so can't comment on jump/jam.

Thank you Dave.I've got a 6.5x47 and I shoot 140s Hybrids with 2209 about 40.4ish gn.It's OK but not the best.After I read some of your comments I ordered some 130gn VLDs.I'll try some in the next few weeks.I'll be talking!

The only problem with the 130gr Bergers is they are pretty damn hard to get a hold of
