Just for Josh Reid.
I have to say that I am astounded by the number of Open shooters using 180 gr Hybrids and not VLDs
F Open

Looks as though the 284 Winchester is very popular as well.

The winner of FTR would have got about 18th place in F-O

Not much else being used but Berger in both lists. I thought there might be a few blokes using Sierras.

I'm sure sponsorship has a big influence on the statistics

The Berger 180 hybrids were very popular in F open. Too bad there are no powder/primer stats. Nightforce scopes and seb joysticks seem to have taken over as well.

Thanks tony, very interesting. Would have been great if they had included velocities.

I'm also surprised at the dominance of the 7mm 180Hybrid in F-Open. I remember 2 years ago at Raton, not many seemed to be using them, because hybrids were available to buy, but not VLDs. Here's a partial equipment list from Raton 2013 - they don't specify the bullet details, just the brand. One of the main changes with the new list is the popularity of the NF Competition scope.

From what I've read, they seem to run 100-150 fps slower than Aussies with the standard .284 case.

Well everyone seems to get on the band wagon in this sport so I did some stats on the average placing for each cartridge.
A lot of shooters used the .284 and not many used the smaller cartridges, so some statistical error would be included due to the small sample size with some cartridges. However the average placing seem to line up reasonably with what you might expect when viewed from a ballistic performance point of view.
In particular, the three 7mm cartridges lined up as expected relative to each other by performance when almost everyone was using the same projectile.

This is how they ended up.

7 SAUM average place 21st.
Hot 6.5’s average place 24th.
.300WSM average place 25th.
.284 Shehane average place 27th.
.284 win average place 33rd.
6mm Dasher average place 35th.
6.5x47 average place 39th.

The 7mm race………..

7 SAUM average place 21st.
.284 Shehane average place 27th.
.284 win average place 33rd.

Jade Delcambre set a National maybe a World Record in F-TR. He shot a 200-13x at a 1K yards. He shot 210 JLK bullets. He used Varget for powder and our barrel finished at 32" long and 1-11 twist, 5R. Can't figure out how to attach a picture of him and the target.

Later, Frank
Bartlein Barrels

Just a point to remember, the twist rate of the barrel you select to be maximised is location and therefore air density dependant. Many US ranges shoot at several thousand feet higher than Australian ranges. That means the air density is less and their tunes do not have to punch as hard in terms of velocity either.

Good point.
Marty L and I used 1-9.5" barrels at the World Champs 2013.
The range at Raton USA was approx. 7000feet.
Marty used straight 284 to come a very close second in the individuals. In a 15 shot match at 800yds he put down a 75.15 (icfra) or 90.15.
In the teams our 2 rifles were 1st and 2nd highest scores overall.
We both used 180vld's and 2209. Accuracy at 1000y was amazing. :D

Cheers
