6.5 Creedmore

I'm just getting interested in F class open, and in the process of putting together a 6.5 Creedmore. I'll probably go to 140gn Hornady Amax bullets and 2209 right from the start. But I won't have the rifle until April. Local range is Casino and it's 600m but I will probably go the Belmont in Brisbane as well.

Hi Headspace
This should go okay for you. We have 3 x guys shooting that cartridge at our club, me included from time to time. Mine is a custom build off a Rem 700 action and has been re-chambered to 24 inches from 26. It still shoots pretty well.
Another is built off a Savage action and he (the owner) is just starting to get it tuned in. Shot 21 straight shots into the 6 and X ring at 500 the other day. Shame the last 10 were for practice.....
I bought a box of the Amax's but seriously get some Bergers. Either Hybrid or VLD. Not to say the Amax won't shoot well. You just get the better BC for about the same coin. 2209 in either a standard LR primer or resize Lap Palma brass down and away you go. We run anywhere from 41.3 to 42.4 for various loads. Mine love 42.2 g 2209. Again you will need to test your rifle and see how it all goes.
With that load I'm getting about 2730 fps out of the 24 inch barrel. Make sure you spend your time with the Howa prior to shooting. Lap the bolt lugs and clean then polish the barrel prior to running in. This will improve accuracy and barrel life I have found - on factory barrels.
The 6.5 CM is a great round and somewhat overlooked in favour of the 6.5 Lap etc. I have plans to build another one for F Open in the future.
Best of luck with it all.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew, thanks for the feedback mate, I'm looking forward to getting into this and the Creedmore as a cartridge has had some sort of fascination for me since it came out. In the whole 6.5 cal has been of interest. It will be a quite a change from Deer and Goat hunting.
Cheers,
John
