HELLO F CLASS SHOOTERS. I OWN A SAVAGE BVSS RIFLE WITH A 1 IN 9 TWIST BARREL . ALL STANDED OUT OF THE BOX. THE SCOPE IS A 36 POWER TASCO WITH 1/8 CLICKS. MY LOAD IS 24.1 GRAINS OF AR2206 POWDER,69 SERRIA HPBT PROJECTILE, LAPUA CASES, REM 7 1/2 BENCHREST PRIMERS.MY O.A.L IS 60.1 MM LONG. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS LOAD FOR F CLASS SHOOTS DO YOU THINK I CAN IMPROVE ON THIS LOAD AND WHAT OVER PROJECTILE CAN I USE IN MY RIFLE AND SOME LOADS FOR THEM PLEASE. A NEW MEMBER

Does it shoot well?

I assume that it is a 26" barrel as well?

Would suggest that you start at about 24.5 grn of 2208 with the 69 grn projectile. I think i would be fairly right that most of us " rat gun" users have better results with 2208. Have a play around with seating deapth can also help.

I use a Tikka Tactical, it has a 1:8 20 inch barrel and I use 24.4gn of 2206 and the Sierra 80gn Match Kings and it shoots very well.

Try to get your load cronographed so you know your velocity then you can load that info in one of the many free balistic charts so you can plot your trajectory.

Do you have a 20 minit scope rail? if not you will probably be restricted to shooting as far as 500-600 meters.

If you would like to try the 80gn MK's I can send some for you to try, the 1:9 Savage barrel may stabalize them. They would be a better projectile for F Class at the longest ranges.

Hi i am currently using 24.3grains of 2206. These are seated 10thou into the lands. Velocity is 3010 fps. this load shoots VERY WELL in my rifle. At the christmas shoot last weekend i shot a 50.9 at 600. Howerver with 223s running hot like this i am restricted to only 4 reloads.

What were the conditions like?

I shot a couple weekends ago as well in a challenge with another club, I could only manage 48.6 , 48.4 at 500 yards. Our conditions were switching from left to right and quite strong .

Yep, your right, it is a hot load way above the max load in the adi reload sight.

HELLO SIMON C , YES IT HAS A 26 INCH FLUTED S/S BARREL. SORRY ABOUT THAT.

According to the ADI book the max of
2206 is 22.5 gn
2206H is 24 gn
2208 is 25 gn and is a compressed load so you cant get anymore in the case.
I have found that with a 30" barrel 2206H gives me 2950 fps with a measured chamber pressure of 54,000psi. The max pressure under CIP rules is 55,000 psi. Going beyond that leads to primer cratering and shortened case life. Once you get to 65,000psi the cases have to be knocked out with a cleaning rod and hammer.
I won't say how much you would need as you have to slowly increase the load while watching for signs of over pressure like flattened primers or Cratered primers where the firing pin is being pushed back into the bolt face.

Try the 80's SAVAGEV....I reckon they are a better bullet esp for the longer ranges. Pestbird's rifle shoots them exceptionally well even with his 20" barrel. Your velocity will be much higher with the same load given your extra 6".

I would start low and work up as per usual load development. The end of the year is a good time, plus it is in the warmer months so it will be running at its hottest for the year.

yes i know my loads are hot. i am only getting 4 loads per case. As a matter of fact i pushed them on the weekend to 5 shots per case and the results were disasterous. i will post pics soon. the primers leaked and i had 3 fal out so all that lot of brass has been thrown out 250 of them. so i am now premming another lot.

the conditions for my nice little score were swiching from 1.5 minits left to .5 right.

You know your loads are hot and you have experienced the side effects of this, might be time you reduced this load, save yourself some money on cases, and possibly even your life, all i can say is i hope to god im not lying next to you when your rifle has decided its had enough of undue pressures. We all need to be aware of what can happen when we do the wrong thing, think not only of yourself, but the people around you, safety is of upmost importance and is everyones job to ensure safety is maintained on the rifle range.

The max reccomended loads are advised for a reason, dont find out the hard way.

Having blown up a case in a .223 once, I wont push max loads anymore. You dont always have any advanced warning. I only got a little powder burned but the rifle was trashed.

Have you tried lighter loads? My club has a 223 Omark, using factory 69gn, and it gets a few possibles. You shouldn't have to take risks and ruin your brass to get reasonable accuracy out of a 223.
