I read online that from pointing projectiles that people often see improvements in elevation. If this is the case, can the presumption be made that the same value of improvement will be seen on windage too?

About 1/2 to 7/8 of a minute elevation at the longs , I've found ! Can't exactly remember but did make a diff in elevation . Wind ?? No still can't wind read , so didn't help much there ! Lol!

Pointing would improve the BC and reduce drop but not necessarily improve vertical dispersion would it?

I had a batch of 180gr Hybrids pointed, 500m group improved a little bit I thought that wa Amore to do with uni forming prior to pointing. I haven't been able to get them to shoot since but the Amax's outshoot them now. I have 500 180 VLD's so I'll probably go that way when I get back to my 7mm

That's a good question Brad, so I did some calculations, and they show a very interesting result :

If you improve the BC of a 180gn 7mm VLD @ MV 2850fps by 5% (realistically achievable I believe), then at 1000yds this will result in approx 2% less bullet drop, and wait for it... 6% less wind deflection! To get the same improvement in wind deflection by increasing velocity would require increasing it to 2960fps!

I'm a lover of pointing! It all started for me when I opened a box of 180s that had tips that looked terrible. I was very happy with the size of the elevation and it also impacted half a min higher at the longs. The whidden site says that the biggest gains are usually obtained from pointed smaller stubbier bullets. If I was shooting standard I would see this as a big opportunity to improve where others can't be bothered. Are f standard shooters jumping on this?

Brad the improvement I have noticed is my waterline tends to be more consistent (less flyers)
mostly at the longs this is where the benefit is most noticeable.

Thanks guys I have all the pointing gear and haven't done the testing with it yet without a home range anymore and the closest one only gong back to 700y. My intention was to minimise variation in bc by a slight trim then slight point and not push the limits of trying to get huge bc gain, but I thought about it and hadn't seen much of the benefit discussion about windage, more so less elevation required compared to unpainted bullets. Alan your maths are better than mine, or you have more time than me to sit and figure it out
