Hello, has anyone modified a caldwell fire control to accept a Seb 3 piece front bag or similar? if so what was required to make it fit.

I did a custom base and a Farley top on mine. Wish I made the base a bit wider but it's functional and a huge improvement on the standard fire control.

Did the farley top go on easily or did you have to modify it?

From memory it was quite simple.

I upgraded my Caldwell Fire Control Rest to accept Sinclair BRII non-windage top and Edgewood bag. Works very well and great improvement on Caldwell supplied bag. Sorry no picture but details are at this link. If the link doesn't work just google "upgrade for caldwell fire control".

Thanks Alan. That looks pretty easy and relatively cheap to do. Ill look into it. Thanks Brad also. I like your set up, changing the base looks easy and would make a vig difference i think.

I simply purchased a Seb 3" bag which is a direct replacement and made some small brackets to relocate the "wings?" On the sides .
Worked a treat and cost bugger all.
A bit can be improved on the insides also . With polishing and getting the pins to roll more smoothly.
I also had the custom alloy adjustment knobs much the same as the one above .
A coat of hammer tone to get rid of the green.
I now run a shadetree rest which is a massive improvement over the Caldwell although the Caldwell always worked reliably.
Only seemed to be a little finicky with ultra fine adjustment

Are those knobs something that can be bought or did you make them?

About 8 years ago I and my friend in NSW, Peter, each bought one. Soon found the joy stick did not work smoothly.
Took them apart and found very poor choice of materials. Replaced the pot metal bearing surface for the adjusting screws with a cabinet maker's scraper after using a Dremel tool to cut it to the proper shape, hole and all. Then, Peter made a set of grub screws with holes drilled in the end to accept a spring and brass mushroom for a bearing. Took a few trials to find proper spring rate. Put them together and still work well! I had replaced the bag with a SEB front bag already and made some small changes to knobs and clamps and Bob's your uncle!
I since got a Sinclair and used it till I started shooting F Open and it was hard to reach the knobs on the Sinclair. Switched back to the Coldwell and lo and behold, it worked every bit as good as the Sinclair but with a joy stick!
