hi all!
I'm lookout at planning some testing between CCI BR2 and federal match primers.
has anyone noticed any repeatable difference in velocity between the two? ie "the federal on average produces 25fps more in my 284 with 180s and 2209"

I'm about to try Federal also, only because I can't get my hands on CCI at the moment. I'll be interested to see if there is any difference.

I found about a 10 - 15 fps slower average in the federal primers over the cci. That's with 155.5 bergers in a 30" barrel. The es did spread out a bit though so I went back to the cci br2. But this is my 308, so things will probably be a bit different for you.

Only difference I found was the federal throw odd fliers and the cci don't. I use federal to fireform new cases so I don't waste good cci primers doing it. Federals in small rifle however have been quite good to me.

In the US BR-2s are about 50% or more dearer than any other common LR primer. This doesn't necessarily mean they cost that much more to produce. Primer prices are set by supply and demand - at one stage I read they were listed as a commodity in the markets

. That suggests that BR-2 are regarded as the best in the US, and given the size of their market, you'd have to listen. I've used BR-2s almost exclusively in my Barnards since 2010 and cannot recall a single misfire caused by the primer. I also recall seeing some testing done on the 6mmBR site about 5 years ago, and BR-2s came out ahead of Federal GMs. And last but not least, the packaging of CCI primers is more compact and practical IMO.
